SUBJECT: Comair Update

In view of significant changes in the economic and competitive conditions in the regional airline industry in recent years, we have been advised that Delta continues to explore strategic alternatives for Comair, as they have previously communicated. I expect Delta to make a decision by the end of July on that strategic direction.

We do not anticipate any further communication regarding Delta’s plan for Comair until a final decision has been made. At the same time, we commit to keeping you advised of developments. Thank you for your continued professionalism and focus on safety and the operation.

Please remember to take care of your fellow crewmembers and our customers each day out on the line.
 
That sounds like a "we're going to cut your head off" type of email, but giving you a glimmer of hope that it's not going to happen :(

Hard to believe that just early last decade, Comair was the place "everyone wanted to go"...
 
Rumot, rumor, word on da street says doors close on Sept. 30th ;). Spoke to a few of my former co-workers who are still there and they really don't know but the crew room gossip is Sept. 30th also. Just have to wait and see like everyone else.
 
Sept seems awfully soon to wind down all of their flying and dispatch those aircraft to other carriers...I know Fall is typically slower but you figure Comair will be running full-tilt through August...

I agree though that emails like that don't leave a warm and fuzzy feeling. I'm sure there are lots of hard working people left over there.

Comair will never get a pref hire deal with Delta and in fact, will probably be pushed to the bottom of the pile due to history. Not really fair for a lot of the CMR guys who were never involved with the MEC back then or RJDC but it's how it goes.
 
Rumor mill says the last CMR CRJ-50 flight will be August 14th "...with no training scheduled for those getting displaced..."

Again, rumot-only.
 
If they close up I would bet the majority of the pilots left at Comair will hang up 121 flying. I could not imagine having to start over somewhere after being with a company for over a decade and still being junior!
 
I think SKYW is playing a big game of chicken with Delta. They are contracted to fly their CRJ200's until 2020 and as long as they meet contractual obligations Delta is forced to honor that regardless of their deal with the pilots. SKYW also has lease obligations that mirror that 2020 date. I think that is going to force Delta to make the cuts elsewhere where they have a lot more "control"...ie Comair, Pinnacle, etc.... or pay huge contract violation fines.

It's nice that Delta wants to get rid of them, but a contract they sign with the pilots cannot legally force a 3rd party company to abide by the terms. If my mailman and I sign an agreement that I'm not going to pay my mortgage....I assure you Bank of America doesn't give two s#its!!!!
 
Actually...

Delta Air Lines Inc. has the ability to renegotiate our CPA at ANY TIME. Now, however, doing so would significantly cost them financially.

Do not think that ExpressJet is immune to future cuts from the Delta Connection system. I trust our leadership to find and exercise other opportunities that may present themselves over the next few years. But I for one cannot recommend anyone to think we can not be reduced out of the Delta system. We have a very strong agreement, but it does allow Delta to enter into negotiations at anytime between DOS and 2020.
