FAA Grants exemption for expired ATP writtens

Previously, the FAA was sticking to their guns that if you were an SIC completing an upgrade training program, you were allowed to use an expired ATP written. However, if you were going to be completing a non upgrade program, like almost every airline that will be required to type their SICs, you were not allowed to utilize this expired written.

Well I just got the official document today showing that the FAA is granting an exemption to this rule for 121 pilots. So if you're an FO that will be conducting a PIC type ride outside of an upgrade program, you won't be required to go out and re-take your ATP written.

Good news for a lot of guys.

A more accurate or appropriate thing to say would, in this case, be, "Who cares? They still took the written."

So what you're saying is that if you fly 121 for a living, you're written is more valid than that of one who flys 135 for a living, everything else equal? It doesn't effect me either way. I have my ATP. But the writing is on the wall with this one. I am willing to bet that someone rose a big stink over this because of a few factors. Namely how much harder(read economic impact of canceled flights) it would be if they had to send a crap ton of people out to retake their written.

It just blows my mind that this exemption was granted to those who fly only 121, and not those who fly 135. What's the difference!?!

The exemption was created because it directly related to the 121 rule changes. Nothing in 135 changed, why would they make an exemption?

Wonder if they are gonna make any more exemptions, such as time or age. What about the 750tt for military pilots and 1000 tt for 141 pilots rumor, any word on that?

Or pilots currently engaged in 121 air carrier operations that do not currently meet the minimum aeronautical experience requirements...and so on.

Who cares. It's not like the ATP written has much bearing on flying anymore. It's just something you have to do.... because.
"It is the way that my father, and his father before him, did things, therefore, that is the way we do things."

The FAA writtens are a joke. Everyone knows it. This is just the RAA pushing things back long enough to figure out how to incorporate a 100% Pass-Rate Scam in to their program...I mean the totally independent programs at the pilot factories so they can keep putting Renslow-in-the-seat for a low, low SPECIAL price of eternal debt and wage-slavery.

The FAA quit releasing their database and have a schedule to change the question banks. The FOI test has changed quite a bit and a lot of people fail it. They will get around to the ATP soon enough.

Wish I could be a little more blunt with this, but really. Trolling? I personally think its bull that just because someone works 121 that their written is basically good forever.

I've decided to merely quote posts that make my points from now on. This is an excellent work-load reduction program.
