Passed the test...

It took about 20 sec. for the '+' to show up when we took the test a couple of weeks ago... (and I bought the most inexpensive tests that I could find, as I thought... no way, she's just late like normal) Right now the wife is in the middle of severe morning sickness. She has been stuck in bed for the last two days - it starts around 9 p.m. and goes throughout the morning into the afternoon. Anyone know any home remedies that work? She is allergic to Zofran.

I'm very excited, and I already read a couple of 'expectant father' books... and my wife is the 'kid whisperer' so I am not worried about the taking care of the little one stuff. (except the whole paying for the baby...)

The funny thing is that no matter how much you plan, there is always something that comes along and changes the plans on you. Even though we have been trying for a couple of years, you never think that it is really going to happen for you once it doesn't happen right away.

We have the name picked out for a girl... any suggestions for a boy? And... does anyone have any old baby stuff that you want to pass along. :) I need to start collecting the appropriate gear. So much for having never changed a diaper in my life...

Aw yay :) Congrats!

Try the SeaBands, supposedly they help. I never had morning sickness or threw up at all with either of my kids (oh don't be mad, I gained weight like a bitch so I still had my share of misery) but I've heard those wrist bands help a lot. Ginger, crackers... it's miserable but it usually passes within a month or so.

Reading the thread title, I thought you were referring to paternity test and were found to be scot-free, like on Maury Povich.....:)

Great news ! My little boy (18 months ) has been great! They grow up fast! We are taking our little boy to watch easter eggs drop from a B-25 today!

Good luck with the little one and I wish you all the best!

My wife said to make sure you write everything down that happens during the delivery and after otherwise you willl forget the little details.

Wow! This is just awesome! Congrats to both of you!!! Getting baby stiff from family and co-workers and friends will save you a lot. We have been collecting for my oldest son who is expecting his first (twins no less) in June. They grow out of stuff so fast anyways. A baby is going to change both of your lives in wonderful and remarkable ways. You won't know what you did before they came along. You are going to love being a Dad. It's so fulfilling and so scarey and so marvelous and so unknown and crazy and wonderful all at once. lol This is just great news.

So far the SeaBands are not working, but after a couple of days where she couldn't even get out of bed I've been having her drink Ginger Ale, eating crackers, hard boiled eggs, noodles, sucking on peppermint candies, and taking peppermint oil. I don't think that there is a 'home remedy' that we haven't tried yet. The morning sickness is still pretty bad, hopefully it will become manageable in the next few days so that she can get back to something resembling her normal life.

Oh that sucks. Sometimes that morning sickness is really, really bad. If it keeps up and she can't keep anything down maybe the doctor can prescribe something other than Zofran as an anti-nausea medication :(

Awesome, congrats. Good luck rearing your child.

Thanks... Luck is not needed... it will be a steady diet of sarcasm and entitlement - to prepare the little tike to 'survive' in the modern world.

Thats wonderful man!!! From a guy with a 6 month old its pretty great.

Thanks. The funny thing is that I am looking forward to the walking and talking part more than anything. But, I know that the whole newborn thing will be pretty neat too.

Congrats!

Just want to say goodluck, we are all counting on you! :D

Thanks!

I hope so, but I am nervous about anything 'foreign' that might go into her body. (Yep, I'm one of THOSE people - I can just picture an arm growing out of the little kids forehead because some drug company said, oh... yes... that is totally safe) She has a lot of allergies to medications - and a history of bad migraines - so I think that we are in for a rough ride for at least the next month or so.

Thanks a lot... I've been thinking about that constantly. And thinking that I am going to have to work a lot to pay for all of that stuff. (at least that's how I am dealing with the overwhelming feelings right now) I just hope that we can get into a house in the middle of next year.

Thanks, good advice. I was thinking of bringing the camera and recording everything, but my wife doesn't like me even taking pictures of her without her hair done and makeup on. I can't imagine what she will think about me filming 'below the belt' - but, in the end writing everything down seems like a good idea.

Ah yeah, no pictures during the actual delivery... There are a few of me pre-delivery and many post-delivery of baby. Let's just say "the details" don't need to be photographed.

It is NOT a flattering time for pictures.

There are some perfectly safe drugs for nausea.

And epidurals are a wonderful thing.. just sayin'!

Oh, yes... that is the plan. For sure. The sister-in-law went the 'natural route' and well, that isn't for us. We will take the drugs during the delivery...

To each their own, but I think that if women from 100+ years ago knew that we have today the medical means to take a HUGE chunk out of the unbelievable pain of childbirth... and we pass it up to be "Natural", they'd probably bitch-slap us. :)

Not meant to be a slam on those who choose "natural" childbirth, I just wasn't going to be one of them.

The newborn thing is Hard Work!!! But when they start smiling back at you it's pretty darn good.

Meh, fricking babies....they make grown men all gooey inside, darn them!!! The first time they reach out their little arms for you, the little sigh they make right before they fall asleep on your shoulder, when they grip onto your finger, the way they cling onto you with their tiny, fat, pink fingers, how beautiful their skin is and how much you just cannot stop yourself from kissing them everywhere, their perfect little features, when they yawn, their sweet little innocent smiles that just melt your soul down to it's core, all the fun they have just sitting in a little tub in the sink having a bath, their squeals of delight over everything and anything, the sparkle in their eyes, catching yourself getting up in the middle of the night to check on them and then spending 20 minutes just watching them sleep, the little folds of fat behind their knees, their little babbling sounds, the first time they have that little "surprised" look on their tiny face, taking naps with them snuggled in your arms on the couch, when they reach out to touch your face. Sigh.
