Things to do when trying to get a job...

9-5 Ruins Lives
Pro tip: when communicating with a potential employer; put your best foot forward! Items such as proper capitalization, punctuation, spelling, not typing as if you are composing a text and avoiding slang are all generally good ideas. I certainly don't expect emails and cover letters to be robotic and devoid of human input/passion, but a little brevity and old fashioned professionalism never hurt.

If your potential employer has never met you, bad communication style can really hurt. First impressions do go a long way for better or worse. Perhaps this thread can serve as a reminder to step up your game and also be a source of tips for landing that next job.

I have seen that emailing and contacting potential employers on Facebook doesn't work. They only respond when I show up in person to talk bout getting a job

Funny I see right after JSfirm posted something to FB about a resume having something to the effect of

"references a pond request"

Ya don't say.... :)

Hey I figured anything was worth a try. I even tried contacting the owner via his personal facebook page. Didnt make a good impression. Never the less after meeting in person he did comment on my rentless effort to get the job

Contacting someone via a public social account is stalking?

I really wouldn't suggest that.

Do what you want, of course, but if I were trying to get a mentoree hired, I'd kick him in the ass for doing that! :)
