Where are the airline pilots going to come from?

Let's face it, the real job everyone wants is the part 91 owner who flies 2x a year and pays you six figures to sit on your butt at home waiting for him to email you he wants to go out next week to FL to see the grandkids.

Until he kicks the bucket and the estate sells the airplane out from under you. If it sounds too good to be true...

But even if we did have a shortage, it wouldn't necessarily be "the good way".

Meaning, lots of high paying jobs and no one there to fill them.

It's more like lots of low to medium-paying jobs and fewer people there to fill them.

True story, I was talking to a pilot recruiter a few years ago that was dumfounded that his airline didn't have the usual 7 to 12,000 applications on file when the window was open for the company that he was recruiting for. I had to say, quite honestly, the airline was no longer seen as the ultimate destination of job seekers. People don't necessarily seek professional prestige from who they work for, they seek that though working for one of the top-paying airlines and, well, the company that conventional wisdom says is the place to be.

If you kick a brother down some ducats, improve working conditions and don't treat your employees like a debit card for bad planning and decision making, you're going to get applicants.

Well I'm just coming there for the pension.

I'm trying man, I'm really trying. I want to be sure that Kim Kardashian doesn't get penalized for her obvious success and business acumen.

I sense a reform coming from you. The Kreat0rz may have use for you yet (obviously more than the productivity you provide which creates their lavish lifestyle). We'll give them two tax breaks and hope they make more jobs. Let them eat cake.

I can't do this alone, where's Boris dammit?

Well any job could end. But while it lasts there'd be no better job. Maybe if you were single, hooters air.

"Hooters Air" was Pace... and they went out of business in 2009.

They also only had one 'Hooters girl' on board.

It really was too good to be true in that case, sorry.

Jeesh, there was a Hooters Air FO who said quite the opposite. You worked there?

Also the hooters air ending was why I quoted it in that past, we were discussing the job ending.

One of my former crash-pad mates in DTW worked there... he talked about it a lot. Said the airline itself wasn't bad, but the whole Hooters Air thing was basically a bad gimmic.

I don't know, loaded a plane for them once in Sewark back in 04 or 05, I thought they went out of business very shortly after that. Anyway, I saw three hooters girls in the front when I went up to sneak a peak and they had wings.

Its supply and demand, but how many people think about supply and demand for pilots. The companies demand to pay their pilot groups poorly, so the supply of pilots is poor (in quality).

We should all chip in and bring hooters back. I love wings at fl360

Eww, could you imagine the stench of hot grease that hasn't been changed for a week, in a poorly-ventilated cabin?

But I remember not long ago on here the general agreement was that over the long run 121 lead to a better life style.

You're citing the "appeal to the crowd" fallacy. Just because everyone else thinks it's better doesn't mean it's better. And even if it's better from an objective sense, doesn't mean it's better for the individual. :)
