This just in, Good NEWS!!

I predict that the new rules will create stagnation at the legacies due to unfavorable changes in international augmentation rules and a net zero effect on domestic flying. There might be some hiring at the regional level for obvious reasons but that's as good as it will get. I wish I was cautiously optimistic about the outcome of this change but I'm not. I've said it on the other thread but I think the law of unintended consequences will negate any legacy hiring. The only positive I see is the safety benefit for regional scheduling and that is important. But that's where it will begin and end. JMHO.

Ah hell, you mean I gotta come back to flying?

Yay?

Ok seriously, if pay increases and the rest rules come through, how many pilots do you think would try to start flying professionally again. Is it minor, major, or just plain random?

at eagle recurrent they are really focused on fatigue management. One huge thing I got out of it, was that 13 hours seems to be the magic number on a large majority of airline accidents in the last 25+ years. Fatigue increases your risk of having an accident, and the level of fatigue starts to overlap the effects of being drunk, and 13 hours seems to be the magic number to make this happen, as well as the magic number on the majority of airliner accidents in recent history. They also focus on sleep cycles, and the importance of them. I wish my friends at other airlines were being supplied with this info, its good stuff.

So it seems the UPS article is what we need. That bloomberg article sounds like not alot would change except get an extra hour of rest...10 hrs of flight time? Am I missing something?

I forgot to add to my prediction decreased productivity...get ready for more days on the road for the same amount of money.

hopefully it looks like the eagle mia emj fo lines this month post new rules....19 days off, 60 hours flying, and 72 hours of pay........now that is some serious koolade!

I predict that the new rules will create stagnation at the legacies due to unfavorable changes in international augmentation rules and a net zero effect on domestic flying.

Unless they have made some very significant changes to the original proposed rule, then that prediction would be incorrect.

I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I'm out of the loop on this, as the can kept getting kicked down the road I stopped paying attention. Is the so-called 1500hr rule still being pushed through; is it some how suspected to be included with these new rules? Or has that idea been abandoned?

I tend to side with ATN_Pilot on this one, if they haven't changed too much.

I have to admit, It will be nice to not see 4 legs, 8:20 overnight, the 4 legs on my schedule ever again!

I like how the UPS one says how rest is going to exclude the travel time some times the shuttle is so slow it kills everything.

It's impossible for me to imagine that my days off per month are going to go anywhere but down with this garbage. And consecutive days away from home and total days on duty regardless of length was very a significant issue that was all but ignored throughout the NPRM process. I mean FRACK! When I'm in some damn hotel room 300 miles from everything I am, I care about etc. I may be "off duty", but I'm not off!..I....AM AT WORK! This side of the problem was never addressed. I personally do not feel we did anything but screw ourselves. The new rules as they were originally proposed were just painting a turd gold. We certainly, at the regional level will be working more days for the same pay credit thus negating the benefit of any daily or weekly duty time reductions. The argument that the rules will force airlines to schedule more efficiently is not likely to hold water. All this work to create new rules to fight fatigue that will do absolutely nothing towards fighting fatigue! Ain't it grand!

The combined regional airline managements across the industry are collectively pure evil. They will dissect these rules on every level and exploit every angle and loophole and ambiguity they can to get as much productivity out of the individual pilot as possible. These bastards are so good at this they will very effectively and with complete efficiency deflate any value these rules may offer us as line pilots. It will be a big shift of one problem gets solved, another one gets created...

I hope I am dead wrong.....I really really do....But, what can I say...We will be getting exactly what we "voted" for now won't we.
