Fess up who was it? Im surprised it doesn't happen more often. With our schedules I can totally understand.

Well I hope some good comes out of this. This isn't the first time I've heard we ended up over the pacific somewhere. There are some runs that are just so fatiguing on your body no matter how much rest you get. Hope he/she filled out a NASA form I think it helped when I had an "opps" on my record.

Some of the runs are, this run is not. Not by a long shot. We are hoping there was something else involved.

Boy aren't you tough.

Great guy. I hope the best for him.

Not being tough on him at all thats not how I meant it to sound. I am trying to downplay what everyone thinks happened, and I am hoping it was something else that caused it. Like a mechanical issue. I love the guy and really wish him the best. I had to fly out to relieve him, was very tough to do.

That being said, it can happen to anyone. But I didn't mean to come off as kicking him while he was down thats for sure.

At least he had an autopilot. We had a guy ride one into the dirt when he fell asleep. It was such a gentle descent that it didn't wake him up.

He is by no means in a minority. I'm personally aware of two other companies where this happened; I'm sure there are many more. The FAA has yet to begin to scratch the surface of a proactive fatigue policy, even after 3407.

We're seriously dragging a possible career ending event onto the intrawebs? Whether right or wrong on the pilots part, this thread is pretty ridiculous.

It happens more often than you may think. We had a guy blow through a bravo, luckily he had a working AP, or it might of ended differently.

I'll bite, how would it have ended differently?

A "working" autopilot can be interesting in a cargo aircraft. Had one randomly pitch up hard once.

Yup. Should have been in PMs at the most. Apparently my original post wasn't serious enough.

So someone fell asleep i take it? Not sure why mentioning the company and base was necessary... I will say I am surprised this doesn't happen more often though. Or maybe it does and most people just get away with it.
