SkyWest Hiring FOs

Dont get too excited about MSP. New hires are reserve as the senior FO's transferred in hopes of holding a line.

I think the place to be for the next few months as a new hire is the Brasilia. There are a ton of seat locks coming up, which means lots of movement on the Bro. The next several EMB new hire classes will likely hold lines right away depending on the base.

This is what I did. I was hired in March and I'm already in the top 45% at MSP. For a while MSP was doing no reserves at all. Everyone thought IAH would go junior, but it stopped growing for now. The lines are pretty nice there and it's mostly 700 flying in IAH.

New hires will probably get any base they want, except SEA, PDX, TUS, and PSP. It might take a few months for places like LAX, or SFO. But there are some pretty junior guys based in SFO now.

GOod to hear. I'm looking to take my ATP written, build a little multi, and apply in Feb. or March in person at the Job fair wherever it'll be at. I'd love to be based at KORD seeing as how that's where i've always lived. Good chance of an RJ slot at ORD?

They only fly RJ out of ORD. March is way out. This is a very dynamic environment. Make your decision when time arrives.

Guess somebody dropped out of a Dec. 26th class date in the RJ, got a call and now I start then. Barely over 1 week notice!

I know several of these questions have been asked already, but I'd like to see if there are any updates. I have an interview this week, and I'd like to know what to expect:

What kind of class dates are being assigned now?
Is FAT still the junior base for the EMB? What about the CRJ?
How long are reserves lasting in each aircraft in SLC, DEN, SFO, or PDX?

Thanks for any info guys!

As far as class dates, I have no idea. I don't think any line pilots really know... Maybe after your interview you can tell us what you found out!

Yes, FAT is still the junior EMB base and probably will be as long as we fly the EMB. The most junior CRJ bases appear to be MSP, COS, and IAH.

I think reserves in the EMB will get lines fairly quickly if they're in FAT. There's going to be a ton of EMB guys transitioning the next few months.
As far as reserves in the CRJ, I have no idea. I was hired about 10 months ago, and for the list you posted above I would be a EMB lineholder in PDX and SLC, and a CRJ lineholder in DEN.

Unless you ABSOLUTELY need a CRJ base, I would strongly recommend getting a EMB class and going to FAT. You will make more money, have a better QOL, and will likely walk right into a CRJ line when your seat lock is up in a year.

For the guys that had class dates in the future and got called out early for earlier class dates being on the short call list. How much sooner were you called out then your original tentative class date? Months, weeks, days? Thanks

I had an original tentative date of late march...now I am in the Jan 23rd RJ class. I interviewed in October. Hope this helps

Question to SkyWest folks:
Is there a waiting period for dental insurance to kick in for things like crowns? I have to get one done, but with first year FO's salary and expenses, I'd rather wait until I get insurance through employer. Any advice is appreciated.

I think it's 3-4 months from your DOH.
