SkyWest Hiring FOs

Things are always in flux, so stay tuned as they might call you tomorrow for a class next week. Or it could indeed be until June. Either way, keep your heads up out there - 2012 and beyond are gonna be good methinks.

Just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that I recieved an email back informing me of a tentative May 28th, 2012 class date wow, they must be really busy. Thanks again for all the information.

When did you interview? They've seemed to have interviewed a group of applicants everyday while i was in the schoolhouse last month... surely enough to build up a sizeable pool... I'd be extremely surprised if we didn't run classes before May, we're short as is most everyone else.

Interviewed October 27th and who knows maybe she meant to say March 28th instead of May 28th? In any event I was trying to figure out why Eagle who seems to be hiring in large numbers is putting people through training within a month of interviewing (or so I read) and here it seems to be so backed up, I wonder if it is due to so many upgrades and transitions occuring. I was told in the interview that they really need pilots for this up and coming year. As for me waiting until end of May means another seven or so months of flight instructing which isn't so bad in and of itself but the paychecks are what make this wait sting so much.

They will DEFINITELY need to hire pilots for the EMB by early next year. A very recent (and credible) rumor is one EMB class a month starting in January. There may be enough EMB transitions between now and next May that they won't need a new hire CRJ class until then. But as long as you're open to a Brasilia class (and there's absolutely no reason not to be), I'm sure you'll be offered a class sooner than you think.

fly the Bro! It is a great machine and the Bro side of the house is where the cool kids work anyway!

Thank you Bumblebee and gypsypilot for the advice I have successfully been switched over to the Brasilia after contacting Skywest and a result have been awarded a January 31st class date. I was still suffering from alittle SJS before I snapped out of it. Not to mention I really wanted an ORD base.

now you want Fresno at least at first. (The trips are way better and there seems to be more movement there.) Live in base. If I could have I would have...but I had to drive 3.5 hours to go on trip ... not a problem but when I went on RSV as a captain it really sucked and I had to get an apartment down there anyway!

Totally agree. The trips out of FAT are excellent. Not exactly the best place in the world to live, but not nearly as bad as the SLC people make it sound. The North side of town is actually very nice.

heck I rented a room in a house on acreage about 30 minutes out of town...great environment. Not in the middle of Fresno...good experience. I'm still in touch with my former landlord (roommate) if anyone is interested.

Congrats! I'd just like to say there's nothing wrong with wanting to fly the jet. Although if you have never flown a t prop its a good experience. I just got the email yesterday being offered a position for the CRJ, they said nothing about the EMB option or a class date. I'm a little bummed that they told you it's going to be until May. Seems to me something is wrong, why would they be pooling people 6 months out? Who knows in 6 months we could be in another recession laying people off. Anyway if anyone hears of an earlier class date than May please PM me. Also I'll try to post what I hear.

The EMB is fun to fly, I was on it for just short of seven years and I have no regrets. Like Bumblebee said, the Fresno flying offers a lot of fun and variety. Most the crews are really good people too. You will fly jets for the bulk of your professional career, so enjoy a little paddle time.

I was also wondering how much work with DME arcs and NDB's does a typical brasilia pilot fly while at Skywest if any as well as circle to land approaches?

OO pilots aren't authorized to do circle to land approaches. There's a couple airports we go to that we arc at, Butte and old St. George comes to mind(read: not very often). On the jet, the fms does it all anyway.

on the Bro we did circle to land...

one DME arc I recall is into RDM, just make sure you're slow otherwise your chasing it...I have a funny story, but it needs to be told with debriefing fluid...(that's beer)...and I circled into ACV nearly half a dozen times.

That is a challenge, particularly at night....and it's good if you trust your FO when you have to circle, because it's generally howling and gusty...but it's fun...once you can see the lights from the left seat.

Yeah they changed it all with the AQP stuff.... only circle to land maneuvers which require 1000'/3 miles now.

The worst circle to land was coming into Cody WY at night. Circle from a runway 22 approach to runway 4. Hard not to leave dimples in the seat when you were done with that one. I digress, 1000 and 3 now and we rarely truly did the circle.

There are DME arcs here and there. The Twin Falls ID. ILS has a DME arc we used ALL the time.

Well it looks like I will have to wait just alittle longer now because my class date got pushed back to March. I was so excited to start training in January too... oh well it is only a few extra weeks I guess.:)
