Who wears the hat?

Well they might if they are prop trash.

I use the rudder more in the Q than nearly any other airplane I have ever flown.

My hat sits on the rear sundeck of my car. Its gotten me out of some tickets, so i figure right now it saves me about $600 / yr

I wear the hat because I'm supposed to wear it where I work.

In the winter, I don't mind wearing it at all because sometimes my hair is a bit longer than average and if it's windy I don't need to worry about my hair blowing around looking sloppy.

Another reason I don't mind wearing the hat is to get all the anti-hat people all riled up.

Similarly, I sometimes intentionally make the biggest exaggerated overshoot style turn during a "line up and wait" clearance, going all the way to the fourth stripe past the centerline gap before cranking the tiller to the stop and pivoting around. I do this just to get the crew at the hold short line all revved up about how I didn't need to turn like that. I know they are discussing it.

The "heavy turn" in an RJ is always a classy move. 10 points if you wait until you only see grass before you turn. :)

Seriously??

Inadvertently, yes...the first time.i just had it up there so my daughter wouldn't spill crap on it. Got pulled over on the way to work. Cop asked if I was on my way into work, I said yes, he said have a nice day. He had me at a legit 80 in a 55. I was late, and wasn't even going to try to talk my way out of it. Other few time have been at stupid hours (2 am on the merrit for example) I've always been treated with respect and sent off with a slow down /drive safe. Usually those odd hours have been for something like 5 over, and I'm guessing more of a wtf check than legit stop...but still its quick. The last time I didn't even have to hand over the reg/ins. Ymmv, but seems to be my good traffic luck charm.

Yep, I wear the hat, even though it's not required at AirTran anymore since last year. Tradition is important.

I have to agree with you. I hear a lot of talk about airline pilots no longer getting the respect they they once had, yet I see so many who carry themselves so poorly these days. Have a little pride in how who look, I think it does help the image of an airline pilot. IMHO.

On a side note. In my complete newbieness (not sure that is a word) I went into the transient bag room in ORD at the start of my last 5 day, and there sat my hat! Right where I had left it. I had to open my bag to get something out (on my previous reserve trip) and i must have laid it down. I was in a hurry to get to the plane. So I have my super cool pilot hat back!

One of my favorite maneuvers. After all, the Q is as long as some 737 variants....so, it's all good and I look über-cool doing it. ;)

I'll wear the hat when we have to wear the coats/during the winter. I like the way it looks with the whole uniform, I have an uncle who has been flying nearly 30yrs and is one of the most professional pilots I know, so perhaps some of it is to emulate someone I look up to. Plus it helps keep my head warm for first flight of the day walk-arounds in exotic destinations like Altoona, PA, Presque Isle, ME and Beckley, WV.

I don't get the fuss over wearing them, it isn't half as big a PITA as many of the guys make it out to be, but to each their own. I must be one of those choices from the list a few posts back I guess.

I don't wear the hat.

I hate the hat.

If it were required, I'm not 100% sure, but I'd probably wind up getting called in over not wearing the hat.

I abhor the hat.

I hate it.
