The worst seat on an airplane

the other day I had a deadhead and because we are flight crew, especially regional flight crew we were given the "special seats" all together in a row.
I ask you, is there anything worse than the following situation?
DC 9 - Last row on the right and the middle seat.
You do not get a window because guess what, there is no window, there is a JT8D there instead. It is also next to Two lavs. I am not a light sleeper, but when that thing powers up for takeoff, forget about it. Plus the vibration you feel, especially if they are not synched can drive you crazy. For the first time I actually felt clostraphobic on an aircraft not being able to see as we dodged thunderstorms turning left and right and I kept on looking at the wall to the right saying to myself, man i hope this engine doesnt blow!
Having said all of that, I actually love the dc 9 and am sad that i will probably not be able to fly it in my career but this experience was just miserable.

That's the sound of freedom baby! Man up! ;) Takeoff in that thing is probably the closest I'll ever come to blast off.

The engine sync noise should get better after TO when the non flying pilot turns engine sync on around 1000' AGL or so....assuming it's not MEL'd which happens frequently. I find the -9 seats on Southernjets pretty comfy compared to the competition...ESPECIALLY Cal 73's.

In all seriousness it's not the best seat but I'll take it 10 out of 10 times over the back seat of the crj or erj.

I'd have to agree with Cav, not the best seat in the house but if they're kind enough to give me a ride or if my other choice is an RJ, I'm happy to be there. I do love the -9's, I wish I had a chance to fly them in my career.

Which worse having no window in the back of a -9 or 88 or having a useless window by my knee on a crj?

Suck it up. I'm just happy to get a seat when I'm going home, happens often enough that I don't get on. The back of a 74 or A330 is much worse in the middle of the middle row. As uncomfortable as it is, you still have another hour and a half when you land until you actually get up. At least a DC-9 unloads pretty quickly.

I hate bulkhead seats.

Hell, at risk of alienating 90% of my users I'd rather have that windowless seat in the back of an -88 than anything on a Canadair. Ugh!

Go easy on me guys!:) I said I love the plane and wish i could fly it. I am always greatful for a ride home, honestly i have never been on a 747 at all so I can't comment.
One of the things I acutally do love about those DC9 and MD88's is that they still set off car alarms in nearby parking lots to the airport when they takeoff. It will be a shame when they are retired.
Oh and about the RJ, its a fun plane to fly but to ride in the back of that thing is aweful. I hate that Delta is using them on routes such as DTW-MEM, JFK-ORD MEM-ATL
Oversold every time and weight restricted. The paying public deserves better.

I love the back of the DC-9. It's loud enough to put me to sleep plus I welcome no windows - no bright sun-reflected clouds to keep you awake!

The absolute worst seat is the lav.... when you've been blessed with a bad batch of tex mex... crapping through a screen door with a little occaisional light turbulence to make you hold onto the hand holds in the lav... that Sir is the worst seat.

The lav in the rj....

That's it.....I'm done with this place! All you fancy jet pilots have crazy ego's.....88's this, 76 that, blah blah blah. None of you have a clue, sit down, shut up and get your ride in my steerage class aircraft.

:sarcasm: just in case it's necessary

the worst seat on the plane is better than the best seat in the terminal! all I get to ride on between work and home is crjs and dc9s. god bless you fedex. you make the commute bearable.

I still hate the jumpseat in the CRJ. Granted it gets you home, but at over 6' it's a tight fit. Especially when you get a 4 hr flight.

The front window seat on a Southwest 73 (no first class). The cabin starts to wrap inwards cutting off your right leg to about 6 inches of room infront of you, no seat in front of you to put your stuff, usually some annoying loud-mouth sitting next to you who thinks they are the bees knees because they are in the front row, no seat infront to put your feet under.

I'd have to say the worst seat I've been in was the exit row window on a CRJ-700/900. The seat bottom is shorter than all the others and is extremely stiff. Your posterior will go numb guaranteed!

Every crj-200 seat is the worst. Just can't get comfortable in those seats.

Yeah they suck. Maybe it's just me, but they seem really low as well. You have to crane your neck awkwardly to get a decent view outside.
