The worst seat on an airplane

Know what seats I miss?

The rear-facing bulkhead seats on SWA 73s back in the 90s.

I frequently was on a DAL-SAT-DAL day business trips or DAL-HOU-DAL trips. In the afternoons on those flights, it was happy hour for six passengers just hanging out at the end of the day on the plane, having a few drinks.

Those were fun trips.

Those were awesome! Why did SWA get rid of them? I guess if there are three really strange people occupying the other three seats it could make for a long flight.

On the other hand, I read somewhere that rearward facing seats put your body in a more survivable position in the event of a crash.
 
On aircraft with rear mounted engines, I actually like sitting behind the wing. Call me weird but I get this weird rush when the engines rev up for takeoff, especially JT8d engines. That being said, On Delta Md88's, 38B is the worst seat on the plane.The No window and middle seat 1 2 punch can make even ATL-BHM seem like an eternity.

and why do both pilots HAVE to slide their seats ALL the way back and put their feet up on the dash crushing you even further into your 14" x 14" torture device. WTF. I never do this with a jumpseater. EVER.. but it seems like it's SOP for a certain airline. Pretty selfish and inconsiderate if you ask me. You would think they would stop the rearward motion of the seat when they feel resistance and hear the bones cracking.. but no. They slide forward and then jam back even harder.

I want to root for the home team but honestly anything in coach that is not on an Airbus is inferior to the A-320 series, if we're talking about narrowbody stuff.
 
Any seat on a Continental (United) 737 in coach, especially the middle seats is the worst for me. I don't care about windows or lavs just seat design. I don't know what it is, but somehow even USAirways manages to have roommier, more comfortable seats even on the same aircraft type. Does Continental think it can coerce people into buying Business Class seats my making their economy class seats as miserable as possible? If I can't have business class I love seeing an Embraer product on my itinerary. Everything else is on equal footing in my experience.

Granted if I dropped some El Bees I'd be a lot more comfortable, but isn't it fun to whine ;) ?
 
British Airways seats are really uncomfortable - for me as, at 5'4'' the part of the headrest that's supposed to support your neck gets me in the back of the head so I can't sit straight and for my husband, at 6'2'', there isn't enough legroom. So basically they're perfect if you have a really long body and really short legs but are hell for everyone else!
 
Middle seats anywhere...Especially in the back of narrow body mainline aircraft. Nothing like waiting 30 minutes to get off the plane as everyone tries to unwedge their wedged in asses and luggage. Crew usually splits early, cuts APU and hopefully you have some ground air going.

Flew US Airways to Frankfurt a couple months back...8 hours block with a seat pitch of about 30"; not so fun!
 
I had the middle seat, last row on the right on a DL DC-9 yesterday coming back from ATL.

I was ecstatic, I was so unbelievably happy to be sitting on that plane at all they could have put me in an overhead and I'd have been smiling all the way home. My little guy was in the seat next to me, and we got to go home. It was the best seat in the house.

FWIW, a window would have been nice, but I love sitting near the engines like that. It totally lulls me to sleep. I don't mind it a bit. My hearing sucks anyway, so the noise isn't a factor...

I'm not kidding when I say that I was just so grateful to have made it on that plane and have a seat at all... middle seat last row? Cool! I'll take it! It got me home.

the new 737's at American are just as bad. They are horribly uncomfortable if you are above 5'1". You can't even open a laptop fully on the tray table, the screen has to be tilted slightly downward, it's ridiculous. You can't recline if you're tall. It's impossible because the seats slide forward and you're knees are already jammed into the seat in front of you so you can't slide forward to recline. The bulkhead in 1st class is absolutely awful too. I would be PISSED if I paid for a first class seat and got that garbage. Coach has more legroom.

the worst seat is the one in the terminal that your sitting on when the FULL airplane is backing away from the gate. leaving you behind.:)
