Gents -
I class up on Monday and am trying to get my things in order for school. A friend of mine told me not to use the shirts they'll try to sell you because they suck and to go ahead and order some now just incase the size is off or something there is time to send them back. What kind of shirts does Eagle Allow? What are your suggestions?

Also, I plan on wearing long sleeves pretty much year round, is that going to be an issue?

Should I buy the luggage they try to sell or should I go off and get my own elsewhere.

ANY tips or hints would be greatly appreciated!

James

I use www.pilotshirts.com for my shirts, our company doesn't care what brand of shirt we wear as long as its a "pilot" shirt. Your mileage may vary. As far as long sleeves, other than being hot during the warmer months and possibly needing to wear the jacket with it when you're wearing long sleeves I doubt there will be an issue. I second jtrain and the lw 22'' bag. The initial cost might be high but you get what you pay for.

I bought a travelpro suitcase when i started 3 years ago and its still going strong. I have had to replace the telescoping handle once, as well as the 2 handles on the bag, and 2 sets of wheels. each of which costs only 10-20 bucks. I have also had to deal with it being called a FA bag too. haha. but yeah its held up pretty good. I got it cuz it was a lot less than the 300 dollar LW bag. With that said you wont go wrong with a LW bag.

Can I ask why you want to wear long sleeves year round? Do you have sleeves (tattoos)? At my company, if you wear the long sleeve you have to wear the jacket with it.

Good luck in training!

I do have Tattoos which would be visable with short sleeves, thanks to my younger, stupider military days. Hopefully Eagle doesnt have that policy with the jacket.

I bought this bag and am VERY pleased with it. The construction is just as good as Luggage Works bag, but feels a bit lighter. And definitely cheaper. As for kit bags, I got mine from an Office Max not far from the hotel you'll be at.

Company pays for half of the initial cost of uniforms (if you buy from that company they bring in), so it's your call what you want to do. The shirts that they sell or pretty crappy.

Yes the shirts completely suck, so I would suggest finding your own. The suitcase, the LW Stealth is a great bag. Yeah a little pricey. You can order it from outermarker.com (and the shirts too) and at least save taxes, as opposed to buying it at the training center.

I've got a Strongbags Crew Cooler, and if their luggage is built as well as that thing is, it's very likely a good alternative.

I'm paid like one.
Put this in your cooler...

There are plenty of people with tattoo's that wear short sleeve shirts. Just wear the jacket in the terminal to hide it. I don't think you realize how hot the cockpit gets in the summer with sun heat and all the avionics running.. you will be a miserable sweaty mess in long sleeves.. If you get the ATR it will be twice as bad.. I looked in our flight manual and can't find ANYTHING about tattoo's in the uniform/appearance section.. but I imagine they want them covered up if they are very visible, at least in the terminal.. I wouldn't worry about it in the cockpit or on the ramp.. nobody cares.. I've seen a Southwest guy with full sleeve's walking through the terminal.. but that's Southwest.

Pilotshirts.com is good.. I like the tapered oxfords

I got a tattoo on my arm, its peeks out of the short sleeve sometimes. But its not a big deal. but if you got one that comes all the way down to the elbow, then yeah, you might be stuck wearing the long sleeves. But RPM makes a good point, wear a short sleeve and the jacket in public.

As for the strong bags, I heard the bag repair man at the stopover store telling a customer that the strong bags are better. take that for what its worth.

For luggage, get a Luggage Works 22" Stealth. If you get something else, you'll just end up getting a Luggage Works bag when your cheap, crappy bag breaks.

I 100% agree, you'll end up getting a PNT 22 Stealth anyway, might as well get it now. It has the J hook bolted on, and after rampers mange to lose more than 3 or 4, you will appreciate that.

I also like the Briggs & Riley 21, much lighter. It won't hold up long to flight crew abuse, but they will repair it for free, for life. Not terribly popular with crews, but you see a few.

eBags has a nice cooler bag too.

I still have a crew Travel Pro for sale with a small cooler tote thingy Ill throw in. It doesn't have the sleek metal sides but works well and is a lot lighter.

Is there anything special as far as uniformity goes when buying uniform shirts from someone other than the people Eagle brings in? Or is just simply white, button down uniform shirt from anywhere?
