Is This You?

You think you're better than this guy? Smug arrogant individuals man. Its not right to expose those who have no knowledge you're going to post them online. You're a damn creeper for doing this. And if I saw you taking pics of me, wed have words outside n I'm sure that phone of yours would be no more either.

I hate to tell you this, but he is better than this guy. YOU DON'T GO TO THE BAR IN YOUR UNIFORM, IT'S THAT SIMPLE, DUDE. There is no good reason as to why this guy couldn't take off his epaulets and told everyone he worked at Outback.

If you're out in public doing something stupid like this, you deserve to be ridiculed for it...pull your head out of your ass.

Don't go to a bar in your uniform.

Not only is it unprofessional, you open yourself up to ridicule! :)

And always presume if you're in a public place, you're being filmed.

While I think it is silly to be labeled as unprofessional for wearing a uniform at the bar, as pilots we just have to suck it up and change before hand. Sure, plenty of other professions can hit the bar wearing their uniforms/work clothes/ID badges but hey, their job probably isn't as fun!

I always ask myself, "If my chief pilot walked in right now, saw me in my uniform doing what I am doing right now, what would he think?"

When I've got the uniform on, I represent my employer. That's the way the FOM states that I'm supposed to view myself when I'm wearing their "brand" and I have two choices at that point: (a) remove the uniform and put civvies on so I can loosen up and enjoy from freedom or (b) not accept employment with the company.

Seriously, if my captain comes down to happy hour wearing his uniform, I'm going to ask him "WTF?!" and question his decision-making ability.

Professionally speaking, >>>>>in my humble opinion<<<<<<, the uniform is on loan from the airline. And I don't want to blow a day off doing the carpet dance in the CPO over my constitutionally-protected freedom (?) to bust out a Jaeger-bomber with my double-breasted horse blanket on.

But, as I said, that's just my personal work ethic.

People have been fired for posting pics of themselves in uniform on the internet. These firings have stood. Even if it's you and you post your own picture, even if you're not doing anything "illegal", if it puts you in a position where the COMPANY is represented in a not-so-great way.. you can face discipline for it. Don't take suggestive pix of yourself in uniform posing on company property and post them on your blog, and don't go to a bar in uniform. It's just not worth it. Put on people clothes and tell people in bars that you work in the propulsion of aluminum tubing.

Of course its unprofessional, and of course its a dumb thing to do, but do we really have to snap pictures of people and bash them behind their backs is what I'm concerned about. Big brother is one thing you can't escape, I just thought wed have better judgement than that. Did you confront the individual in question? Or is it best to say things behind someones back. Its just a matter or ethics, I myself feel uncomforable snapping shots of strangers n posting them online for ridicule its just weird to me.

When he walked in he went strait to the bar. I figured that he was either there to pick someone up or order a pizza, so no worries. A few minutes later a patron made the comment "I hope that he is not flying today". I turned around to see him lifting a beer to his mouth. Sorry, but I had to ask him why he felt it necessary to wear his uniform in a bar while consuming an alcoholic beverage.

It's the internet.

We're a bunch of arm chair Judge Wapners! :)

I know a dive in Broward to remain nameless where maritime crews occasionally will be present in uniform and drinking. No one cares.

I guess the moral of this thread is to hold yourself to a higher standard. Professionalism and such. On a personal note, why anyone would wear monkey suit in pubilc is incomprehensible to me.

What is worse an off duty pilot in uniform with beer, or a Mr Bob worker who just came back from a hard days work of pumping excrement still in uniform. Lol

Have some self-respect, folks, don't wear your uniform to the bar.

Because when someone snaps a photograph of you drinking a Schlitz and then it hits the social media, if you work for a well-known carrier you are absolutely hosed.

If you don't remember the Ellen Simonetti/"Queen of Sky" debacle from several years ago, that is a classic example of the need to be super duper careful when you're in your companies uniform.

You're a professional, you're not a trucker. And if you think you're nothing more than a trucker or a blue collar hourly, please do not bitch about pay or work conditions because no one cares that daddy dropped $130G's on Comair Academy and the airline's only paying you $X.
