Can the major air carriers survive without the regionals

Costs, not wages.

Are we really so short sighted as to believe that mainline management cares what regional pilots make?

Wages as well....mainline not regional. Having the option/threat of farming out mainline flying keeps wages at mainline low. If the DC9, mad dog, and 73 pilots cost too much, management has the option/threat of giving that flying to the regionals at lower costs. There have been lots of substitutions of 2-3 RJ's in place of 1 mainline in the recent past. This keeps a negative pressure on narrowbody mainline wages....and you could even argue that same pressure moves upward as well to the larger a/c.

Those decisions are economically untenable on a long term basis, which mainline companies are starting to figure out, and much quicker than we are, I might add.

Haters gonna' hate....

I had the distinct pleasure of trying to explain this phrase to a 60 year old a few days ago.

"uh, it's like how some people are never happy? Or... crap.... uhhh...expressing indifference towards someone's negativity? Aww never mind"

But scope is evil. EVIL! :)

"Haters gonna hate"- when someone always finds displeasure in your actions no matter how positive your actions were.

ex...Skip Bayless.

Doug, we need to fly together at some point. We could probably cause at least a couple aneurysms between us.

I would agree that they are untenable in our current environment at $100-$120 oil....$60-$80 oil is a little different situation.

I'm not arguing for outsourcing....I fully agree with Doug that Scope is vital and needs to be defended. Not to mention I'm a regional captain looking to make the move once majors start hiring again. I'll pull gear for Mr Taylor when he finally upgrades!
