Cloud bases--stating the obvious

besides the aircraft, I had one of those "you see it every day and don't really see it" moments.

In this case, it was the cloud bases. Here, in Florida, the clouds in Spring and Summer are usually at that particular height at a particular time of day--i.e. they look just like the clouds in the picture--all the time

So, I wondered, "what is the highest base height of a cumuloform (sp?) cloud?"

Well, according to the impeccable sources at Everything Pre-school.com base height is one of the major classification of clouds.

(To the previous commenter who wrote in another thread, "Thanks for asking the stupid questions, Beasly" you are welcome!)

I don't think I have seen a cumuloform cloud base over 8000' ever and I would venture that 6K is probably more realistic for late summer with the Thunder-Boomers rolling in.

there is one flying out of abilene doing some fire fighting, I think the a/c is from cali

Re: Cloud bases--stating the obvious

I've seen the bases of boomers form as high up as the high 20s.

P2-V as evidenced by the Kerosene burners attached to the wings to help the radials.

One of the first warbirds I ever saw...
