Sometimes you get lucky, amazing video (Challenger Medevac)

This job would be easier without all the airplanes
Pretty cool video, a Quebec Provincial Government Medevac (Lifeguard for you folks) flight was having nosegear extension problems.

This happens at CYUY in Quebec (Royun Noranda - I'm probably butchering that spelling) also known as the middle of nowhere for most people, but it has a somewhat extensive airport.

After several attempts to land on the mains to get the nose gear to drop, they circled for 90 minutes to burn off fuel, tried a couple of more "touch and go's" , then decided it wasn't going to come down, circled again and proceded to attempt a landing with no nosegear...

Pretty amazing what happens

Looks like from what's been discussed up here that this airplane is equipped with a gravel kit, and that may have played a part in this...

You can see it's gravel kit here:

no way!!! That was awesome/ AND LUCKY

You gotta wonder what they were thinking the moment they realized the gear dropped...

I keep picturing the end scene in the movie Memphis Belle...

Well maybe not quite so dramatic... and in French with no subtitles...

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, amazing video (Challenger Medev

That's pretty neat.

If it was me behind the controls, I would like to think that I would have probably been landing a little bit firmer to see if I could get the nose wheel to come down. Give it rough landings and have the nose wheel come down, or give it rough landings and land with the nose wheel up. One just costs more than the other. :)

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, amazing video (Challenger Medev

I'd be a little worried about landing a little too hard in that case and bringing the nose down prematurely and losing control... but I'm not an experienced pilot by any means.

On a side note to the video, that's a well placed snowbank

CA:"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!"

FO:"Captain, I think the nose gear just came down?!"

CA:"I need a beer!"

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, amazing video (Challenger Medev

Looking at the paint job I thought the plane was a mini Air Force One.

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, amazing video (Challenger Medev

And they taxied in after that. Didn't call for a tug or mx to ensure it was locked?

Is that like running over squared?

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, amazing video (Challenger Medev

Wow...if I didn't know better, I'd say that was a camera trick. Amazing.

I was thinking the same thing bout the snowbank.

"brace for impact......brace....keep bracing.......any second now"

I'd be surprised if there was gear in YUY to tow a CL60

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, amazing video (Challenger Medev

That was pretty cool! I didn't read through the comments, so it came as a surprise when the bird had 3 green post snow bank.

FO: but first we need to close the flight plan

CA: Good call, lets do it at the gate..

okay, i should stop before i step on someone's tail.

ARFF probably checked in the well to see if the downlocks or overcenter devices, etc, were engaged prior to taxi. Or, possibly pinned the gear if it has the capability.

Btw, the primary ARFF vehicle there is an Amertek CF4000. Neat to see, as there's not too many of those still in operation.

Re: Sometimes you get lucky, amazing video (Challenger Medev

Considering the remoteness and size of the town of Rouyn-Noranda, I was surprised to see they had ARFF, but I've never been there either so maybe the town is bigger than I thought.
