Guess who's got low stress and high pay!

Hahahahhaha! Yeeeeeeah. Nice list, AOL! I've got a #21 with a degree in #14 that has vast experience in civil engineering that's been on the unemployment line for a few years.

I wouldn't consider 64k a year big money either. Thats enough to live comfortably on with a home in a cheap area in TN and thats about it...

$64K's big money if you're pimpin' the deuce at Target. Even after the real estate bubble burst, that's about the price of a pool in Scottsdale.

In the new economy it will be, particularly if you're a couple who both make this. The days of $100k+ jobs are fading quickly.

None of these I'd consider "high paying"! Cracking the $50k mark, I could afford a decent 1-bedroom apartment in a crappy area of Vermont while stashing a few hundred away every month. That's not "high paying," that's "decently comfortable."

It depends on where you're at. $50k in Texas buys you a 4/2 on 2-acres. $50k in NYC gets you one floor above a bowling alley, one floor below a crackhouse.

60k/year seems ok when you're a nerdy kid in love with transportation appliances. Raising a family on 60k/year is essentially impossible. And as Murdoughnut suggests, this is the wave of the future as we lower the hyperwealthy's effective tax rate to single digits in an attempt to "stimulate the economy" (that's mumbo-jumban for "convince them to let us do work for them for a just-living wage rather than just stockpiling the free money the nation is borrowing to give to them").

The ability to raise a family (if one so chooses) oughtn't be some kind of wild extravagance that only the top 10% can afford. What is this, Feudal Europe? Wait, don't answer that.

I thought these were supposed to be "high paying" jobs?

(Edit: Serves me right for not reading the responses - already been covered.)

That 50K in texas will get you a 4/2 on 2-acres but it will be a 4/2 "on wheels" and mobile. . . maybe.

Why does it seem like some quasi-media source like AOL or Yahoo! is coming out with one of these stories every two months or so? It's always something to the effect of "You're an idiot because you work hard and don't make gobs of money! Just look at this list of easy, high-paying jobs that we found. Maybe you should just go get a masters degree and get one of these jobs. No one in this field is unemployed!"

What's the frigging point of these things?

Because it got all of our attention and we went to the website to read their article. Now their little website counter is a lot higher and the marketing department can report to the advertisers how much more traffic the site is getting. $$$

On related family/income note there was an article in WSJ recently about cost of raising a kid. Excerpt
The cost of raising kids is continuing to rise. A middle-income family can expect to shell out nearly a quarter of a million dollars, or $222,360, to raise a baby born in 2009 to age 18, according to the Department of Agriculture ... and it doesn't include the college cost...

I would be thrilled to tears if I had a job that payed $50k or higher. Maybe it is because I have gotten so used to living on poverty wages. After 4 years of instructing and nearly 4 years of freight dog flying, the most money I have ever made was $37k. At $37k I was meeting expenses and saving a little bit. Keep in mind that I have a 2 year old son also. After 1 year of making the big money ($37k), I had to take a paycut and was reduced to $26k. Now I am laid off and unemployed. Maybe I am different because I don't need a great deal of money to be happy. If I was making $50k a year, I could pay all of my bills, buy a quality used car, and maybe take my son to Disney World when he gets a little bit older. As far as I'm concerned, that is living the good life. I am in the process of moving into the IT field. Any job that pays me $50k a year with good benefits and decent schedule would be ideal for me.

My property tax was under $2K and my state income tax was less! :)

I'm a #5 and there ain't nothing low stress about it. When I have to listen to the Navy, Air Force, Boeing, Lockheed, or P&W wanting everything last week it's no fun.

Oh and in good 'ol NY I paid $6k in state income tax and $5k in property tax, all on <100K/yr income. Oh and I have a 9% sales tax as well. I'm desperately looking to move...

Why is the Department of Agriculture involved in this? Last time I checked, people under the age of 18 are not vegetables.

Because lots of stuff comes out of the Dept. of Ag. budget.

Food Stamps? USDA

WIC? USDA

School lunch program? yep, USDA
