Luggage for Regional FO?

I don't regret one penny of my Scott bag purchase. They are expensive yes but the thing is a tank.

Someone mentioned Coyote bags....I can't confirm but some guys at XJT were complaining about some "changes" in the way they have been handling repairs. The bags look ok I guess but I'm not a fan if the metal skid plate. Some people love it though so ymmv. For my money I'll go with Scott since they've been around a while.

I didn't think you could get repairs on Coyote bags anymore, what with the company kind of being out of business these days.

The Coyote Works brand doesn't exist anymore, but one of the owners started a new company called Hunt Manufacturing (http://huntmfg.goods.officelive.com/default.aspx). Last I heard, the Coyote Works bags are still supported as far as warranty is concerned.

I have spoken with John Hunt on several occasions, he was one of the original owners of Coyote Works. He is still making the same bags and will support CW bags fully, and never stopped supporting them. I have never had a problem dealing with John or the new company. Most of his replies are within hours or at the latest the next day.

Sure you could buy a BMW 3 series and waste all that money, but what's the point when you can get a Mitsu Lancer for a third of the cost!!! BMW's aren't anything more than show anyway, and just make you resemble the other sports car owners. Too bad it's still just a 3 series, and can't hold a candle to REAL German engineering; Porsche :)

You want a BMW, go for a 7-series.

That's why i don't return your phone calls.

12 years of corporate flying.

Bag # 1 Big Lots $30, 5 years.

Bag # 2 Big Lots $35, 5 years.

Bag # 3 Samsonite from Burlington Coat factory, $80, still good but not as good as the Big Lots bags.

I agree, when I bought mine the Name plate was incorrect, I called, shipped the bag back, and had it back all fixed in 4 days. All free of charged. Great Service!

I can't help but wonder how many bags are sitting in landfills what were destroyed in a year's time, and then were replaced with the lifetime warranty. Buy something that lasts. The PNS 22" are great, and rebuildable. I had mine rebuilt this year, $120 for a complete overhaul, and it was destroyed.

Ive got the scott leather case and the PNS22...I should be a body builder after carrying this thing around for 7+ years. Id get the plastic version of the PNS22. Travel Pro is for FAs!

I'm not one to pull up old threads and bring them back to life, but for the sake of admitting I was wrong I'll make the exception.

What you are about to read below is BS!

On the suggestion of one of my fellow FO's I bought the SwissGear Zurich Upright from Target.

Only $99
Nice size, 10 Year warranty, and it has a laptop pocket.

My buddy told me that he had a small defect on his after a couple of years, took a picture of it and sent it in and they sent him a new bag, without requesting the old bag!

The LuggageWorks bags looked great, but were just a tad bit heavy for my taste (10.9 lbs empty! Ouch)

Yeah, seemed great for the first 5-6 months or so, but it was not up to the task at hand. Too many trips into and out of C3, too many trips into and out of the hotel van, and too much kit bag for it to handle.

Did it fail? No. Was it going to before long? I have no doubt.

The wheels started sounding like an engine with a spun bearing. Pulling my case with my kitbag attached was like pulling a sack of bricks uphill over grass!

I called it a day before it did. Went with the LW 22'' Stealth Computer.

Pricey? Yes. Heavy? Yes.

Will is stand up to the constant beatings on the ramp, or the dumbass hotel van driver that stacks you bag in the back 10 high and has it tumble out once he opens the door? Yes

Save yourself my headache. Live and learn.

The following is right on the money.

Luggage works = Pretty Neat Stuff = Pretty Neat Things = my bag that has lasted twelve years and four airlines. I finally had to replace the handle yesterday.

It makes a BIG difference if you can keep your bag on the airplane with you. Especially considering all the gate checked luggage that happens with regional jets. Not having to keep track of your bag every single leg is a wonderful thing. I had a bad that was just barely too big for the overhead bin when I was on IOE... made it 4 days chasing my bag every time we stopped. Went home and ordered a LuggageWorks 22" Stealth from the stopover store and haven't looked back. It will probably be the last bag you ever buy.

Ask around at your airline. I'm willing to bet almost everyone has a LuggageWorks roller.

22" Stealth, large duffle. You can't go wrong.

Agreed. Don't mess around with trying something cheaper, you will end up buying LW in the end anyway. Well worth the money.

Suit yourself. I just bought the Luggage Works bag. I had a crappy Travelpro bag at XJT and it was destroyed in a year. Now, I need a bag that I know will hold up on an 18+ day trip overseas without breaking a zipper or seizing a wheel.

Luggageworks Stealth 22." I commute on an RJ so the bag gets abused by the ramp 4 times every trip, and it's going on 6 years old. I put new zipper pulls and new tires on it last year, and some touch up paint, and it still looks OK.

The Costco bag is nice, but their warranty isn't much good when the entire (plastic) wheel assembly shears off on a rough curb in Mexico 2000 miles from home. Your bags didn't look that heavy until you had to carry them...

I have a LW metal framed bag and a Coyote Works Flight case. While a little heaver than average they most likely will be the last bags I buy in my carreer which still, God willing, has 30 years left in it. Packing for 18 days and being on the road that long I can't afford to have a bag completely fail. So far the bags have stood up to everythign rampies have done to them, including running it over with a tug. It bet the frame but a mech was able to hammer straight in a a few minutes mid trip.

I have the same bag you're talking about, and while it is great for moderate use, I am planning on going the exact same route as I start my airline career (PNS Stealth 22" computer)

I got the new TravelPro Crew 8 Series which is supposed to have improved upon the wheel problems that I have heard mentioned by others. I find it to be really nice and there are some good deals on them right now. The Luggage Works ones are great too from what I hear, but seem to be quite a bit heavier and more expensive.

I had an old travel pro. It was great, until the handle broke after 5 years or so of use, and there were no handles in stock. Bought the available TravelPro, and it was coming apart after 2 months.

Bought a luggageworks bag (with the duffel), and have had it ever since. It's heavy, but it's survived being checked on airlines, as well as the bag drags and other normal airline use. It also holds a ton of crap compared to the previous same-sized TravelPros I owned.

Sent it back to get some zippers worked on. Even though it was out of warranty, I got no bill, they did the zippers and even fixed up the skid plate.

I can't complain about it, other than the weight.

7 years ago I bought a Samsonite bag at Mervyns (however you spell it) for 50 bucks. Still works great. With my current job it gets manhandled by the airline bag monkeys quite often and it is still holding up.

Anyone have experience with the LW 22" Stealth Computer? How well does it protect a laptop and how is it in general compared to other bags?

It doesn't.

I won't put my laptop in there, but then again, I carry a tablet on the road these days.
