Luggage for Regional FO?

On the suggestion of one of my fellow FO's I bought the SwissGear Zurich Upright from Target.

Only $99
Nice size, 10 Year warranty, and it has a laptop pocket.

My buddy told me that he had a small defect on his after a couple of years, took a picture of it and sent it in and they sent him a new bag, without requesting the old bag!

The LuggageWorks bags looked great, but were just a tad bit heavy for my taste (10.9 lbs empty! Ouch)

I highly recommend the $595 Luggageworks bag with the metal frame that weights 400 lbs EMPTY. :sarcasm: You can look cool like all the other real pilots and show everyone how you got ripped off for luggage when you could've purchased an $89 Costco bag with a lifetime warranty, which will replace the bag no matter what happens to it.

Suit yourself. I just bought the Luggage Works bag. I had a crappy Travelpro bag at XJT and it was destroyed in a year. Now, I need a bag that I know will hold up on an 18+ day trip overseas without breaking a zipper or seizing a wheel.

Sure you could buy a BMW 3 series and waste all that money, but what's the point when you can get a Mitsu Lancer for a third of the cost!!! BMW's aren't anything more than show anyway, and just make you resemble the other sports car owners. Too bad it's still just a 3 series, and can't hold a candle to REAL German engineering; Porsche :)

Damn John! That was hard man! :)

Luggageworks Stealth 22." I commute on an RJ so the bag gets abused by the ramp 4 times every trip, and it's going on 6 years old. I put new zipper pulls and new tires on it last year, and some touch up paint, and it still looks OK.

The Costco bag is nice, but their warranty isn't much good when the entire (plastic) wheel assembly shears off on a rough curb in Mexico 2000 miles from home. Your bags didn't look that heavy until you had to carry them...

I have the Regal Seriew Luggage Works bag...It's LW but is a normal suitcase and not one of those metal framed 200lb monstrosities. Come to think of it, I hear guys constantly complaining about our flight kits weighing too much, only to be dragging around one of those bags with a computer and 5 days worth of supplies inside.

That being said, if I was commuting and gate checking my bag constantly, I'd want something more robust.

I have a LW metal framed bag and a Coyote Works Flight case. While a little heaver than average they most likely will be the last bags I buy in my carreer which still, God willing, has 30 years left in it. Packing for 18 days and being on the road that long I can't afford to have a bag completely fail. So far the bags have stood up to everythign rampies have done to them, including running it over with a tug. It bet the frame but a mech was able to hammer straight in a a few minutes mid trip.

I have the exact same rig. I've nicknamed it "The Decimator" with all the steel reinforcements on both the roller and flight case. :D At least I know it'll hold up on long trips.

X2 for Scott Leather... Bought mine 12 years ago, still goin' strong. $285.00, but you really do get what you pay for.

My Kirkland Signature 22" rollaboard (Costco) is doing fine as well. 2 zipper pulls fell off since 2003. Installing mew rollerblade bearings this week after 7 years. Original cost $77.00, plus tax. Nice. Ten bucks for the bearings, BTW.

D'oh! My Costco bag has rollerblade wheels and bearings, just like my skates.... Pop the axles, press new bearings in the wheels, and GO!

I know Travelpro has always treated airline employees well. The stuff was invented by a Northwest 747 pilot in 1987. Here is the link to the history:

http://travelpro.com/history.cfm

They have a deep discount for airline employees because they use airline crews as "advertising" so that they can sell to regular customers at higher prices. In addition some airlines have a special deal with Travelpro to use the luggage as part of the company uniform and issue the Travelpro at no charge to the employees.

Use your 2 digit airline code and employee number to log into this area:

I don't regret one penny of my Scott bag purchase. They are expensive yes but the thing is a tank.

Someone mentioned Coyote bags....I can't confirm but some guys at XJT were complaining about some "changes" in the way they have been handling repairs. The bags look ok I guess but I'm not a fan if the metal skid plate. Some people love it though so ymmv. For my money I'll go with Scott since they've been around a while.

I didn't think you could get repairs on Coyote bags anymore, what with the company kind of being out of business these days.
