Shouldn't it read "......F/O Todd Ortscheid of Southwest Airlines........"

:)

Who cares? This thread is about Todd and the wookie!

Well, the title was "new ALPA leaders".

And while it's great that Todd and Seggy were elected to EVP positions, the fact that Moak was elected President actually has WAY bigger ramifications for all of us.

Awesome. :) Wonder what happens if ALPA gets booted for SWAPA at AirTran. Where has Todd been, anyway? Haven't heard anything from him since the merger was announced. I'm interested to hear what he thinks about being assimilated into an airline he's called a "cult" before.

Not sure how I feel about Moak getting the spot. He's been playing the "Really, we're gonna help you guys get your flight benefits back" for a couple of years now. Not sure if he was serious or just pandering for votes. Either way, no changes have been made.

Yeah, congrats Seggy, I remember when you were a fresh Augusta based 1900 skipper, and you'd order 5 gallons a side just to have me come over and chat. The gals at the desk thought you were a flipping asshat.

Good or bad ramifications?

Well, I've had a couple grapefruit tequilas, and I've only been in the 121 industry for a couple years now, but if I had to sum it up from my perspective, the guy either doesn't understand the importance of scope one iota, or just doesn't care.

Others can elaborate on their own opinion.

I think that's fairly accurate, Nick, but I also think this has been coming down the pipeline for a while, so none of us should be surprised.

I wasn't surprised. Although, it remains to be seen where he's gonna stand with Uninental on their scope issues. They really DO wanna "take it back," but Moak's track record has been more of a "share the love" with 76 seaters in exchange for a "no furlough" clause.

I've posted since the merger. I just haven't posted much the last couple of weeks because of the BOD meeting. Getting assimilated into the cult? I'll fly my trips and go home and collect my big paycheck. I think it's a great opportunity for our pilots, even though I personally never had a desire to work for Southwest. I guess that's just how careers work out. So be it.

He's going to be our new president on January 1st. Regardless of any personal feelings, we need to stand behind him. Unity is the only thing we have. For the next four years, Captain Moak will be our president. Let's show him the support that he needs, even if he wasn't your first choice.

YGBFSM Moak is really the new president? Time to find another union?

Another union? Not the answer. ALPA is just a collection of people who step up to do the work. Whether your union is ALPA, SWAPA, APA, or Teamsters, you will always have leaders elected that you don't necessarily feel are the best choices. Such is democracy. But in the end, ALPA is more than the people whose faces you see in the back of the magazine every month. ALPA is a 79 year old trade union that has survived incredible struggles, including deep divisions over leadership. Even if you don't like the candidates that were elected, you need to stand behind them. They aren't ALPA. WE are ALPA.
