Yes, it's that time again... Quickest upgrade?

Sorry for the barrage of questions lately, but what regional do you guys think will have the quickest upgrade time? I have 2800 hours and 1100 turbine SIC so I guess it would depend for me on how they choose upgrades...

Not that upgrade time is the only thing to consider, but the only thing missing from my resume is turbine PIC.

Cape Air has the quickest upgrade I know of.

As far as turbine operators if it's not Martex you probably don't want to work for the airline that offers the quickest upgrades. Stop being in a hurry, it gets you nowhere fast.

That's actually not a bad idea. I don't know if the majors would look on that favorably, I guess it could go either way. Why, do you have a spot for me? :D

Many guys have flown their 1000 TPIC in the 208, got some SIC RJ time, and moved to SWA.

We do need a few people.

How's the pay if you don't mind me asking? That's the biggest deterrant to everything I try to do, just simply not being able to afford to live....

You can always go back to colgan. They are hiring and have more planes coming. Not saying it will be fast but maybe sooner than some other regionals right now.

Just out of curiosity, why did you go to Colgan in the first place?

Both quick upgrade and bases near home. Both those things went away about a year after starting there. I could've stayed and waited for the upgrade but the lifestyle of working there with other things that were going on in my life just got to the point where it wasn't working anymore and something had to change. I'm glad I took that break and I've been able to get my ducks in a row in my home life.

It's a good point that if I chase solely an upgrade, that could change. However, I think with the way things are shaping up, an airline that appears to have a quick upgrade has a good chance of remaining that way. No guarantees but sometimes you have to make educated guesses. Upgrade time is just one of the factors, but yet one of the hardest to determine.

See, that's where I get a bit irritated. People were chasing that "quick" upgrade time, didn't care about the pay, work rules, benefits, etc, because all they cared about is getting that TPIC time as quickly as possible and saying "Oh, I'll just put up with the crappy pay/qol for 2-4 years, but I'll get TPIC time".

Then, upgrade times increased and all of the sudden the pay and workrules matter because now I am stuck in the right seat for a few years, so let's get a Union and fix the problem.

It's too late.

Thats what happens when a job is considered a "touch and go" assignment. It, and the people that work it, will be treated accordingly ala pay/QOL/work rules.

When did you work at 9L?

Try telling that to a CFI with 1000 hours that already has a crappy QOL and also has no way to afford the extra 50 hours of multi needed to get on with another regional.

Oh man, you oughta know better!

First "anticipated upgrade times" don't apply to new hires largely because the generation of pilots you're hired into is much different than the generation of pilots experiencing the (fast/slow) upgrades. There are guys at Delta that upgraded to captain while barely off probation (true!), but a guy hired a few months later was nowhere NEAR upgrading that fast.

The guy chasing the "OMGZ Fast Upgradez" is the first guy to complain about how rotten the job is. I've seen it time and time again over the last decade or so of this website being up. That hasn't changed.

Mine too

I'm well aware and being someone that has been in those shoes before, I'll be carefully calculating any decisions. I'm thinking more along the lines of anticipated activity within the airline that may affect upgrade times in the future.

If I could get on with a place with a relatively fast upgrade that doesn't treat you too horribly in comparison (i.e. Compass) then I might consider it. Put an app in with Air Whisky so far but that's it for regionals.

Touche, salesman (I don't know how to do french accents on a forum...)
