New Hire at Ameriflight

Hello everyone, I am a newbie to the 135 world and have gotten accepted into Ameriflight. I'm starting my training on Monday and am just trying to figure out what to expect. I've seen some of the older posts about ground school and wondering if its still the same? Is that guy that likes to scream the whole first week still there? What does he get so upset about? I've been studying a lot preparing for this class but don't know what to expect as this is my first job outside of CFI'ing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm slated to be in PDX; anyone know of a place to live out there towards the end of October? I start training on Monday.

P.S. I posted the question about living situation in the crashpads section under the section "Airline Pilots" but wasn't entirely sure that that was the best place to put it.

It very likely hasn't changed since the 1980's, to be honest with you. Bob will scream, most likely about 90/270 turns.
 
Is he just high strung, or gets that way with "stupid" questions (stupid in his eyes, not that they really are per se)??

It's supposed to be changing drastically actually!


Don't worry about indoc. Just make sure you study hard when you get there.
 
He doesn't scream. Don't let Jtrain scare you. Bob gets excited about whatever subject is at hand. Don't be afraid to speak up. Like KLB said, study hard. Don't spend your evenings drinking and not going over what you learned. Even if indoc seems easy, a lot of what is covered will some day some how become very good to know/remember when you are on the line.
 
Your ground school will be the new test class for a new program. I don't think Bob will be teaching much, but you will still have him for indoc and your VCC check. Good Luck.
 
What was your experience before Amflight?

Maybe there's a kinder, gentler Bob out there these days, but I remember screaming :)

Though you're right, Bob DOES get excited about whatever subject at hand. You could be having a discussion about whether to get your burger animal style at In And Out and he'd bring out pie charts about why animal style is THE ONLY OPTION, and then if you didn't get the burger animal style he'd be like, "WHATAREYADOING!?!?!?!?!?!"

Rumor is that he's gonna retire!

Who's teaching it? When I was there, Bob was slotting in training captains to teach various days of indoc, but he was still running the show.

It's going a totally different direction these days. It's going from good training to great training.
 
Congrats! Let us know how it goes, there are a few of us that will be in the next class. Leave a slot open for me in Portland

Jeeze Jtrain. Your all mixed up. Bob doesn't like in n out because he says there is too much salt. And the fact of him retiring was circling around the training dept when I was there in may. :D

Dude it was rumored he was going to retire soon when I was there in 2006!!! :)

Yeah, I heard its going to be more interactive powerpoints and less old school over head projectors. I was talking with the Dir. of Training the other day and it sounds like it will be a very good program.

Rumor is late Jan early Feb...I'm sure the new instructor will be able to keep the trainees attentions a little longer, but that is a rumor too..

It goes to show that the potential to move into importang roles inside "the company" is very achievable. You just have to show interest and they will do what they can to put in a position to achieve it. Heck at times you may get more responsibility than you can handle.:D

I hear that other companies like to see you have other roles and experiences other than just the run-of-the-mill line pilot.
 
You're not in indoc to be taught anything. Only there to be told what you should already know. I don't know if it is still on his web site, but try Austincollins.com Great basic info.
