Does airtran provide hotels during new hire training

Nope, no hotels provided. The Wyndham just down the street from the training center gives a good crew rate, and that's what most commuters use in training.

You coming on board soon?

I don't disagree. Just stating the facts. In a crappy job market, they don't exactly have to go out of their way to make people happy to get them to come to training. It sucks.

(usually it is much harder to find employees than jobs in my business though)

That's it. That's all there is to it.

If they experienced a shortage of new-hires or a surge in no-shows for class, they'd probably look at changing things like accommodations during training.

Delta only provides hotel rooms during basic indoc. After that you are on your own. Been like that since the beginning. Also, if the new hire is like me and lives within sixty miles of the GO then no hotel at all.

I know a crappy freight carrier that buys hotel rooms for FNGs, full per diem from day one.

You also get hotels when you sit reserve or layover in base...but no per diem there.

It's not unobtainable.

We still pay for hotels, Jepps, and uniforms during training. They finally had to when the pool of guys dried up. You guys should get that changed. That shouldn't be allowed at this level in our profession.

JEPPS?

Yep, I know a second rate regional that flies guys to their interview AND gives them a hotel while they are there. They also pay for single occupancy hotel rooms through out all of training and pay 100% + 100% guarantee from day 1 of training.

Mesa? :p

The fact is, I'd rather have Citrus' payrates and soft work rules than a room in the la quinta inn (which is only offered because regionals know their pilots are literally too poor to afford it themselves.) But yeah, if you could get that for free in negotiations that would be cool.

Shame Air Tran doesn't like pt 135 time :(

Have you looked at airtrans pay? I make more flying a turboprop for a regional than I would over there, at least for the first couple years... no thank you. Upgrade time can't be counted on and even then you're making delta fo pay. Unless a guy's furloughed or on a sinking ship, it just doesn't make sense (to me)

You make 100+ hours of credit on reserve, so I seriously doubt you could make more at your regional. I just about broke even compared to my CRJ CA pay first year, even though my pay rate was almost $20/hr less. The difference between making 75 hours of credit and 110 hours of credit is sizable.

As to pay rates, our current rates are from a 2001 contract that is about to come to an end. We'll either have a new contract or a strike within the next few months. This process is coming to an end rapidly. Expect very large pay increases. Huge work rule improvements have already been agreed to. Anyone that would stay at their regional instead of coming here is making a big mistake, in my opinion. But hey, to each his own.

No offense to the guys that will soon be newhires, but I can think of far better uses of negotiating leverage than free hotel rooms for guys in Indoc. Especially when it's only a benefit that half of the pilots will use, and the company would make you fight hard for it, since they don't want to give much of anything to a guy on probation.

For things that I give Horizon hell about, I will say the way they treated us during the interview process/indoc/sim was top notch.

Alaska didn't fly to ATL at the time, but they got me high priority non-rev passes from DFW-SEA-PDX and then PDX-SEA-DFW for my interview.

During training we had to share a room with someone in class, I got luck as one of my best friends at Horizon was my roommate (we interviewed together and were the only two hired during that interview round).

Pay was 100% and when we went to Seattle for sim training, they paid for the Holiday Inn Express for 3 1/2 weeks and since I was PDX based, I got my per diem pay while I was there.

Where do you draw the line? What about making new guys pay for their training? I mean, it's not really worth wasting leverage on that either.

Little-known fact, but very few contracts actually prohibit this. If management started doing it, then it might be worth spending some leverage on fixing it, but it hasn't been a problem at most carriers.
