Breaking news...GA crash at DVT

That blows. Well, I know at least one of our DVT'ers is out of town.

:yeahthat: As soon as I got my private, I did some spin awareness training.

RIP:(....Be careful out there guys.

I'm trying to get some money to do the same.

It'll be a lot more expensive hours than renting a 152, but I know those hours will be phenomenal to my skills and my safety

I did mine in a Decathlon with parachutes and all. Very expensive, but both alot of fun and a great learning expierience. Why did they take Spins out of the PPL PTS anyway?

I was going to do it in a decathlon in Leesburg, FL.

I just don't have the 600 dollars to do it right now.

I might be able to scrounge up the money and do it next week!

Yeah mine was expensive too. If you can get the money it is worth it.

I flew with a guy last night who went on to do a 45+ degree bank since he was over shooting the final. I was really pissed. That is how people get into cross control stalls and spins.

I am moving out of the area and going to south florida within the next 10 days, so I think I am going to just bite the bullet and do it next week before the move because after I move god knows when I will fly again!

. I was always taught to keep turns around 30 degrees (and coordinated!) in the pattern. If I'm carrying a passenger I like to keeps it around standard rate, so they don't get sick on me :D (true story, spent an hour cleaning the plane)

I found this video interesting a few months ago. I always try to stay very smooth and be non aggressive in the pattern or any other time for that matter.

The idea of a snap roll always scared me since I started flying. I vividly remember while working on my PPL hitting rotor wash once when starting my flare and the airplane yawed really hard, at the time I didn't know what the hell had happened but instictivly I went full throttle to gain airspeed and then used flight controls to get her back pointing the right way. For some reason at that split second I had a vision in my head of stomping on the rudder and dropping a wing and figured lets try this first. Weather that was even a possibility or not I don't know.

You can be aggressive, just be ahead of the aircraft, anticipate what you're going to do and how the airplane will react, and stay coordinated. Aggressiveness is not unsafe at all. Now with pax, temperment is obviously in order.

Moral: Don't land near helos. Light GA and helos don't play well together.

My issue is I don't know what a spin entry feels like, never done one. ( MY fault completely, I should get the training) So I get apprehensive because I know on paper what the airplane CAN do and should do, but I have never actually felt it.

This. The wing doesn't care what your bank angle is. My advice? If you can't afford spin training, spend some of that time you'd otherwise spend watching the air go by horsing around with the airplane at a safe altitude. If a 45 degree bank scares the pants off you, do something else.
