Pinnacle Corp., buys Mesaba

Rumor is we were tossed on ice thanks to this glorious announcement. Management likely gave the NMB a heads up, pleaded for time to get their house in order, and their plea was granted. Meanwhile, all of our pleas fall on deaf ears. We've only got about 5 sections left open. If management wants to start something new, fine. But they need to finish what they started over 5 years ago. Sadly, it would appear the NMB is willing to let them put things off. They probably need the money they're saving every month that goes by without a new contract to pay this off now. The really bad thing? People are gonna blame the MEC and the NC for this because they don't understand how the NMB works.

Mesaba's gonna get hosed in 2011 it seems. There's a Q&A (with some pretty laughable parts, I might add) up on the 9E website. XJ guys, welcome to sucky pass benefits starting in 2011. You'll be transitioning to the "independent" pass program then. Also says XJ HQ will stay in Eagen, MN for two years, but after that, who knows. The overhead of operating two separate airlines under a holding company only made sense from a whipsaw stand point. Operating three not only has ME scratching my head, but the shareholders, too......

Yup. 66 years of operation about to come crashing down.

Will be? Oh, ok. So then "I guess we aren't so different, you and I" is just a little misleading then isn't it? It's real hard for me to compare my contract to your FLOP.

Hope you guys realize what a real team of ALPA members Mesaba has here and that you all have a wealth of experience to draw from.

I wouldn't call it your contract. You work under it, but it's not yours. I would reserve the ownership to members who struggled to achieve the work rule that you take credit for.

That is what's happening at Colgan- you ran and left us to do the hard work. Soon you'll benefit again on the backs of another pilot group.

Good luck and because my MEC chair is about to yell at me, I'm done with this thread.

Since we're all three going to be under one shaky roof, would it not be best to put bickering aside and actually try to help one another? Odds are we'll all get to take a big bite of the crap burger they're grilling up anyway.

Actually, it is very much his contract. He operates under it every day and hence has to protect it and ensure it gets executed, both by him and the Company who may or may not be so worried about following the letter of the contract. Every pilot on property has to take ownership of the contract, even if they weren't there when it was written. That's something you'll understand once you guys get one.

See I call it mine because I left you guys when you didn't vote the union in the first time and went someplace with a union and a contract. See I couldn't stomach whipsawing a pilot group that I had friends at. Now those friends are anywhere but at Pinnacle but that's what I had to look at in the mirror. When I pay my dues it becomes mine as well. You guys finally voted in a union after mainline jobs dried up as did the associated upgrades. Your brand of Koolaid is disturbingly flavored like managements.

I will apologize in advance. I am looking forward to working with the Mesaba MEC to make this transition as smooth as possible.

My members and I are excited for the things ahead.

Hey, I'm positive our union group would be more than happy to meet up with the Colgan union group.

I respectfully disagree and think you are way off base.

Yes I don't want to make it sound like my members aren't condusive to discussions and we plan to work hand in hand with your MEC to ensure prosperity at both companies.

I have a fundamental disagreement with Jynx, that's all. I'll be happy to share a beer and hear him out.

We've not agreed since the first posts directed at each other, that's when I was already gone and you just got your foot in the door. I don't see any reason to bring beer into the discussion it'll probably just turn worse. Only thing I can guarantee is that I'm pro pilot and pro union.

I was there when my QOL withered at Colgan and watched everyone around me get pushed around until the quit or accepted their fate or chose to fight the company. This is right about the time you were cheer leading for Colgan, times have CERTAINLY changed. The first round with the company showed me what kind of unity I could expect from the rest pilot group (*cough* SAAB *cough*), which was bizarre because everyone on the Beech 1900 side was thicker than thieves. There's about 10 of those guys that I'd still kill for.

The guys I left from Colgan I never would have forgotten. Now I won't have to. Anyway, back to flying MY contract.

Simply the Breast.

....and a bankruptcy court. :)

Smittey, I'm glad you're fighting the good fight at the sister certificate, but I think you're getting a bit up on a high horse here. When you leave Colgan, is the contract you helped get installed gonna be YOURS or is it gonna belong to the Colgan pilots still there? Contracts are living, breathing things, too. In 1999, the 9E guys that negotiated our contract wouldn't have dreamed we'd be flying 76 aircraft owned by a holding company that just bought two other airlines to use against us. Should I go yell at them for their mistake in not protecting me from that or work towards an LOA to modify the contract to fit the current standards? In doing the LOA, would just that LOA belong to me and the rest of the contract to the guys that were responsible for it?

The contract belongs to the pilot group that it represents, not the original committee members that negotiated it and voted it in.

:yeahthat:

Smittey, I appreciate your enthusiasm regarding our efforts. However, I also believe you're slightly misguided in the current direction you're taking w/ Joe. Not sure the rest of the MEC would support your current position either. My $.02

Eh, rather have a guy like Smitty on the pilots side rather than management. All that drive is gonna be good for something.

funny how they say that mesaba has infrastructure to handle large number of turboprops even though CJC operates many more than Mesaba. I think what they meant to say is that the mgmt team at Mesaba has the greater brainfrastructure to run a large turboprop comany.

What's the difference? An airplane is an airplane. What kind of different infrastructure is needed to run a "large turboprop company?"

honest question.

I have 19 days off this month.
I have vacation this month.
I have 102 hrs of credit this month.

I guess we aren't so different, you and I.

16 days off
165 hrs of credit
No vacation (could have gone over 200 with it)

Well, we've had Avro's (jets) 6 kinds of props, -200's and -900's here it all seems the same.

I think what they are saying is, "we are embarrassed by the Colgan brand and will change it." Just my read on the situation.
