Pinnacle Corp., buys Mesaba

Well, we've had Avro's (jets) 6 kinds of props, -200's and -900's here it all seems the same.

I think what they are saying is, "we are embarrassed by the Colgan brand and will change it." Just my read on the situation.

Yeah, I get Mesabacolganicle's reasoning...don't get Sherpas.

Best of luck to you man. Gotta be frustrating as hell.

Eh, I've been through this dance once. This time I have a union.

Section 1 of our contract talks about scope. The company has to come meet with us and guarantee our fence agreement within 30 days. We'll know more then.

They can't take away my 1200 hours of TPIC, they can't take away my paycheck, they can't take away my contract, the best they can hope for is to push me out of my base... with my call in honest policy. My MEC outsmarted Mesaba management a couple times back when he was negotiating committee and we've got a ton of cobra's at this airline who've been spoiling for a fight since this morning. My understanding is the Minne crew room got set on fire today after a fresh coating of goat blood painted the walls.

Bring it on.

Eh, rather have a guy like Smitty on the pilots side rather than management. All that drive is gonna be good for something.

Oh I agree w/ you 100%. I love Smittey's fervor for pilot causes and I'm w/ him on it...he's a good dude for certain....I just want to ensure it stays directed at the proper foe: our collective mgmts.

Tough part about being a union rep is you can't really say what you want to. Well you shouldn't anyway. That's why I like being a line pilot.

God, I wonder how long till I have to meet that Casey guy again. *shiver*

“Over the longer term, we anticipate that we can enhance efficiency and growth opportunities for our airlines and our people by reorganizing around two operating airlines,” said Trenary. “Our
intent is to combine the regional jets under Pinnacle Airlines and the turboprops under Mesaba Aviation.
"

Ok, so Mesaba's jets go to Pinnacle and Mesaba is parking all the Saabs, right? So, isn't Mesaba technically losing all of it's current aircraft? I seem to recall that Colgan is hiring. If so, and if they were to merge Mesaba and Colgan (looks like ValueJet/AirTran deal) and have excess pilots, why is Colgan hiring? Management knew this deal was in the works. Why tell Colgan to go get more FO's?

Oh holy crap.

This should be interesting.

This sums it up.

Contractually it'll take years to pull those aircraft away, however, they could do it over time. Add into that, the Saabs being parked, and Pinnacle will need about 3 years to kill us off.

It seems more likely some sort of merger will have to happen.

I'm going to TAWAG and say that Delta will be introducing sleek new Q400's at a hub near you!

Delta keeps saying they don't want T-props. Be pretty embarrassing if that's what they did. Pinnacle says no new sources of revenue (to shareholders) for Pinnacle the next few quarters so I doubt it.

What's the difference? An airplane is an airplane. What kind of different infrastructure is needed to run a "large turboprop company?"

honest question.

I think it was a polite way of saying, Mesaba mgmt has a much better ability to run a large airline operation then the colgan folks.

That could be true, but I still say it has to do with shedding the Colgan name.

I'm sure the name change was a def. plus and part of it. The way I see it, corp. bought xj for the 900's and the relationship with Delta. Going with xj's mgmt instead of CJC's for their "all turbo prop product" as opposed to just taking the name and keeping CJC mgmt in place, is going to cost them more initially but will pay big in the future as they are a much more professional and capable/experienced group of airline managers. We have some good/smart people in our mgmt team as well, but I think when you look at the scope of airline they are trying to create, it is a smart move for them to go with the more experienced mgmt team to head up the operation.

I think MGMT is hoping for a three way integration. Otherwise there are going to be HUGE training COST's and "COST" is a dirty word at pncl corp.

All of our MEC's are straight up folks and things will be handled in the best possible way in the interest of our personal career goals but also our collective leverage.

I am a little concerned for Comair, as they seem to have been left out in the rain. I am guessing because their crj's are older. What a cruel and soulless business.

All that money we made for Pinnacle holdings over at Colgan and they go buy another airline!!! AHHH! S!

I hope you are joking....

Take a couple of breaths Joe. I admit, it kind of looks pretty scary but (normally) these things move pretty slowly once the buy out is made. That gives everybody plenty of time to come up with the worst possible theories and rumors. Then eventually stuff works out and it's not as bad as was thought.

You guys are about to find out just how good or bad your merger/fragmentation policy is though.

I agree. I dont think I will see any changes for at least another year or 2. Hopefully I will be gone by then.

I'd be happy with Mesaba work rules......

Here is my prediction and i guarantee it will be 100% accurate. haha

1) seniority list merger with be DOH
2) the new CBA will be mesaba's current book. which is good for pinnacle, but bad for mesaba.
