Looking for a fast airplane

What about a Cessna 310, they seem like an incredible value for the price. Fast as well.

I love my 310...it's a 185-195 KTAS airplane on 26-30 gals/hour...I can carry myself + 3 pax and bags with full fuel...that's 140 gals, so you can do the the math (I need a drink right now).

Paging Waco!

ah hell, I'll throw this out there:

BEAUTIFUL airplane and thanks for being my proxy.

That said...you wouldn't get an Exec that pretty for $150-$200k. Try $350-$500k.

Now...I know what people are thinking..."Why would you buy that with its oil-dripping radial and stupid tailwheel for the same price that you could have a Cirrus with a safety parachute and glass panel"...to which I'd say...Oh Mitch.

WHOAH THERE, hold up! I would have that plane over a Cirrus any day.

The 300 series Cessnas are great aircraft, but if I had to make a choice between the 310 and the Baron, I would choose the Baron simply because of the fact that they're still in production. Beech has great product support and parts for twin cessnas tend to get a bit pricy because they haven't been produced in 20-something years. I once had to replace a cheap plastic emergency latch cover on a 340. It was in the neighborhood of $100 if I remember. Plus, no light twin that I've flown is nearly as fun to fly as the Baron.

You can look at the Mid time/well outfitted and even RAM Cessna 340's. You'll gain the pressurized cockpit over the barron and the 310, and depending on the year model you can get KI and descent useful loads.

What about a Staggerwing? It would run what, about 175 KTAS? You can get them somewhere in the mid-150's from what I've seen. Beautiful airplane, for sure.

56TC Baron

Game over.

OH goood call no one even knows about these!!!!The 56tc was good for 230-240 kts all day long but not pressurized so you would have to suck the O2 to get the real speed out of her. Good good call though. But a bit of a maint hog with those big ole motors a D/C/E 55 will give you 200kts and carry 4 people easy and 6 is you leave out some fuel. Faster than a 58 and fly nicer than the big baron as well.
you can get a smokin hot 55 for in the 150's with all the avionics you can ask for right now.

hey guys, the doctor and lawyer im flying for are looking at buying another plane. They want something as close to 200kts as possible, doesn't have to carry a lot of people and budget is 150-200k. Im open for suggestions.

I don't wanna sound like I'm beating you down, but I've seen this type of post alot and it is really off base regarding the question you are trying to ask.

I see alot of posts asking what is a good aircraft that company ABC can get for XXXk. The correct question is to ask what aircraft can we get for (X) passengers to fly an average distance (Y), (Z) hours annually and our annual budget is ($).

Then you can make a decision as to the best aircraft to fit your needs.

Probably $200-$250k for a nice one. Also...let's not be silly...there was a LOT of marketing going on with the speeds. Sure, a Stag or an Executive, Howards and Waco's were pretty fast for their day but you had to run a LOT of avgas through the 985's to do that.

That's why I suggested the A-26... it's a 300 knot airplane so you could throttle it back to 120gph and get 200kts out of it easy ;)

How am I doin' Waco? ;)

A disciple!

I'm going to start a cult. I'll be the leader, wear a toga/robes and grow my hair long and a beard. I will be known as WacoYahweh and will preach the ideals of tailwheels, radials engines, fabric covering and free love for...WacoYahweh. We will eat red meat, talk, restore and fly cool airplanes and bring back the art of giving flowers for donations to our church at airports...like cults used to do.

Who's in???

I'd say 80% of the time it will be me and 1-2 passengers. Average distance about 150-200NM 20-30hrs a month. No annual budget has been set or will be.

Eclipse 500?:dunno:

200 knots, 2-3 people on a 200 mile trip should be easy. Cheap these days, too!

No, but really. 56TC Baron. You can get one for 200-ish. You could even do a 58P Baron for a little more and get pressurization (but plan on more maintenance). I think those true out around 210-220kts. 200 knots shouldn't be a problem. For a little more than that, you could get an older King Air 90 at 215-ish knots.

Yes, I like Barons.

Haha... "Church of religious consciousness?"

"No thanks, I gave at the office."

For a single my vote would be a Mooney Ovation.
For a twin the Baron. I've flow both the 310 and Baron(pre and post 84') and the baron will be more passenger friendly with the large doors in the back. The post 84' baron has a higher gross TO than the 310 and parts are easier to find. It's my fav twin piston.

I'm going to take you in a different direction. Take a look at the Cessna Skymaster with the Riley Rocket conversion. The skymaster is an easy airplane to fly and performs well on one engine with the conversion. It's also pressurized and speedy!

Be sure to check out the specs!
