telex stratus 30xt or 50d?

Hey everyone, I've been looking at both headsets. I'm still not decided yet. Does anyone have experience with these? I'm looking for a good headset with anr and passive noise reduction. At this point I'm open to suggestions. Money isn't really too big of an issue. I'm just looking for a solid headset that'll last. Any help is appreciated. Thanks everyone in advance!

Bulky-looking yes, but Telex did a great job wilt the weight distributon so that even the heavier 50-D doesn't give me a headache.

We have one of each. I fly a 50-D I've had for about 5-6 years and my wife has a 30XT.

Great headsets.

The 50d was the best headset I ever owned. I was crushed the day I lost it, but planning to get another one in the near future.

So it sounds like either would be a good choice. Anyone have a preference over the other and if so why? Once again thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

never tried the 30's but the noise cancelation on the 50's is amazing. I went with them due to the cancaltion. I tried 2 lightspeeds and these and ended up with these and no regrets

Wow! Considering that the 50D can be found for around $675 now, a $125 rebate for CFI's makes this excellent headset cost about $550! I may have to get in on this :)

One question to those who have flown the 50D: when using the audio input to listen to music, does it mute the signal automatically for incoming ATC communication (as most others do)? They have mention of "mute either cell phone or mp3 input via a switch" in their product description, but there's no mention of auto mute capability.

I don't think it has auto mute, just a manual mute switch.
Note: my 50d was one of the first versions without the adapter, which I sent in later to get the mp3/cell adapter installed. Don't know if that made any diffs.

ps. The customer service of Telex is really good. You could call them up, and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you with your questions.

I've put about 1500 hours on the 30xt. The audio is a full mute (manually via the button) there is nothing partial or in response to a radio call. I'm happy with them felt they were built very robust in comparison to many of the comparable priced brands. I changed out the seals to essentially match the 50. I use rechargeable batts in the unit and have good luck getting the specified amount of time before they are dead. The light will flash red when you have about 4 or so hour of time left but it'll be half that or less if using music. When I got mine there was an online coupon for $50 off for anybody, and that was right off Telex's site.

How good is the anr on the 30xt? It sounds like the 50d has one of the better anr's around. I read somewhere else that the anr on the 30xt falls short.

Its the only anr set I've used on a consistent basis so my experience is limited. I believe the actual noise attenuation on the 50 is better with a slightly differing frequency drop-off. The way I saw if you could afford the 50 get them for me I could not.

Thanks everyone. I've got a pair of 50d's ordered. On a side note has anyone used an electronic e6b? Any pros or cons? Is it worth the buy or stick to the regular one?
