no auto mute, I always set it at a volume less than atc so when atc is on I can't hear the music. I only use it long xc's when it is quiet in the cockpit, otherwise I can't hear it anyway
IMO it's worthless. It's only value used to be that it made answering some of the knowledge tests questions easier than the whiz wheel (is there an E6B calculator built in to the testing software now? If so, it's not even valuable for that any more).
I bought one when I did my instrument training. Used it so seldom after that every time I took it out, the batteries were dead. After maybe using it twice over the course of 5 years or so, finally sold it.
If you want to do the calculations for real flight purposes (not for the test) you can do as well or better with PDA or smart-phone software.
