Taildraggers: You love em or hate em?

Love 'em. Friday I'm doing someone's BFR in a Piper Vagabond and flying with a friend in his 180 in the afternoon. Friday is looking like a good day.

Pizza is made with lots of dough... and not the kind that gets weird email. :D
Dear dough:
I'm quittin ur sight cuz humptydumpty343535 called me a poopyhead. also you took down my hawtt gurl pix. farewell crool sight.

Don't overlook the Luscombes. I have an 8E myself.

I have been the passenger on the 8A. It was a fun ride. I have never landed one. They are a great value if you just want something to punch holes in the sky. My biggest memory of the ride was how I smelled like gasoline when I got out. It took mogas of course, and the fumes bombarded the cockpit. Stressed aerobatic too I believe.

No really that's what I heard. That time spent banner towing or flying tail draggers is not looked that good in the logbook.

Well, ASA does have this on their website.

* The following types of experience/currency are not considered optimal and will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Banner Towing
  • Balloon Time
  • Traffic / Pipeline patrol
  • Aerial photography
  • Purchased block time

Working on the tailwheel endorsement now. Flying a Cessna 180. Not easy, but it's a blast.

WTF? So what does count? CFI'ing and.....? Oh wait, what if I go to Gulfstream and buy a whole bunch of time? Does that count as purchased block time?

Aha! I fly powerlines, not pipeline!
:sarcasm:

Consider the airline though......ASA. The airline thats renaming itself from Atlantic Southeast to Atlantic Southeast........

I just saw all kinds of tailwheels today. I was surprised by the size of some of them. (Waco, Stearman mainly) I've never flown one, so I don't know if I would like it or not.

Isn't there a big outfit in Winter Haven called tailwheels etc? They may have something worth checking out.

I heard airlines don't like tailwheel time is this true? :dunno: Because I want to work as a banner tow pilot for a while just for the experience but not if it's going to hurt my chances with a regional.

If we were hiring I would look favorably toward an applicant that has tailwheel experience. I think pilots that learned in one have better stick and rudder skills.

I learned to fly in a Cessna 140, instructed in PA-11s, and have over 600 hours in tailwheel aircraft. Too bad I have not flown one in over 15 years,

Sometimes I miss the obvious, and it makes me laugh.

Tail wheel time? Tons of it. Not as a pilot, mind you, but still crew.

Long live the Sikorsky Blackhawk!

(That's a tailwheel, and yes, I am totally counting this. Neener!) :D

Okay, fair enough. Tailwheel.

But you were still a hoo-ah, so you'll need to earn a few more cool points.

There is, but I think most of their planes are not tailwheel. They have Warriors, 152s, 172s. I do know a few people there and went there for a few lessons. Lately, they haven't had a great record with planes though. They had 2 planes go down in about a months time. I saw the planes in Lakeland. :)
