Anyone else here as cheap as I am?

Never took the ATP written but i took the ADX one which is the same test, just a different name. I used Gleims and i got a 94! I highly recommend Gleim!

To the OPs question of "anyone else here as cheap as I am?"

Yes. Doug and I's roommate from college who would bring his own cheese slices to McDonalds so he could save the difference of buying a Cheeseburger vs buying a hamburger.

Wow.

OK, then, i had the idea that it would be better to learn how to do all those problems to learn something at least rather than doing it all by memory......anyways..... does someone have tips, or recommendations about the 727, dc9, performance questions to memorize'em in some order?

It's a nice thought to want to learn something but you'll never learn enough about those airplanes to mean anything.

Sheppard has a method to memorizing everything.

OK, let me start by saying that Sheppard Air's ATP prep software is the dog's balls!!! (or a really great piece of software, for all of you that don't have a wife from the other side of the pond)

I would highly recommend it for anyone thinking about their ATP written. Just download it, pay you money, and pass the test, that simple.

I was wondering though, I know that many here have used Sheppard for their written prep, and we all know about the Sheppard guarantee, so....

Has anyone here deliberately tried to sandbag the test just enough to get their money back?

I know that this was the goal in the back of my mind when I went in to test today, and I failed that goal miserably I might add. Got too focused on showing off I guess. :D

So, anyone? anyone?

I'm sure there are people out there who toss a couple questions to deliberately get below a 90%. Personally, I feel it's unethical. I used Sheppard and got a 99%; they provided a great product, and I felt that was worth the compensation.

I got an 80something% but for the same reason I didn't ask for my money back. I used there system and it's a great product.

Just because I'm a ra-tard doesn't mean they shouldn't receive compensation for the service they provided.

Excellent!

I'll be doing that from now on

I am glad that I'm not the only one who does that. I also bring my own $0.35 can of Sam's Choice soda to McDonalds. Fast food places charge way too much for drinks.

The bonehead would take my cheese and couldn't quite figure out what I was so pissed about.

I don't begrudge the fast food joints for high soft drink and "extra" prices. A lot of their basic sandwich prices are set near cost so if you're expecting them to purchase sanitizer to keep the kitchen (mostly) bug-free, they have to recoup operating costs any way they can.

If you can do W and B in a 172, you can answer the W and B questions on the ATP written pretty easily. It is all the same, just bigger numbers. Weight x Arm = Moment.

To convert to %MAC, it is pretty easy.

(CG-LEMAC)/MAC = %MAC

Performance is fairly simple, as well.

And he'd ask us to steal straws, salt and ketchup packs from the fast food joints for him.

I took the test a little earlier then I normally would have just because I knew I would pass and if I didn't get a 90 then I would get my money back. Got a 92%...so close:)

Funny, I also took the exam sooner then I had planned. I studied for one full evening, and then one full morning. Took the exam that afternoon(Yesterday). Scored a 93%, took 18 minutes, and I never looked at a single graph, chart, or table.

Now that is a memorization aid! Sheppard offers a great tool.

Even though I thought about choking it a bit, in the end I didn't. Just didn't seem right. I do, however, know a guy that did, and he has mentioned it with pride in the past.

Do this program includes the 727, dc 9, questions?, how are they explained?

They aren't you just memorize 'em.

yeah right!!!!, they're way to many questions.....do everybody does it like that?.

but theres tooooo many!!!!!!!!1!1!

It is all about memorizing with Sheppard Air, and they make no bones about it. They are clear about the fact that the test prep is designed to get you passed the written with a high score, they don't mention anything about learning anything in the process.

The way the prep is set up it is actually pretty easy to memorize the entire bank of possible questions. It actually becomes more about remembering the answers rather then the questions. I answered several questions without even glancing up at the question itself, as soon as you see the answer choices the correct answer just jumps out at you.

On top of that, the way Sheppard narrows down the question bank, eliminating questions that will not show up on the test, there are just over 700 questions total to memorize. It really isn't that hard.

It's a nice thought to want to learn something but you'll never learn enough about those airplanes to mean anything.

Sheppard has a method to memorizing everything.

Agreed!

Anything I really need to learn regarding the aircraft I will learn in the respective ground school. I look at this written as I did any FAA written.

Just pass it!

At Papa Johns near our school, whichever dorm room ordered the most pizza for a semester got a free large 1 topping a week the next... so i gladly proxied the pizza orders, or would run around and add orders to mine. That was like, 3 free dinners for me a week!

Yes X, you are cheap. And you're perfectly congruent with most airline pilots! ;)

That's not being cheap that's being immoral. I don't know how much $$ the guy makes off the program but I guarantee he makes it ethically and legally. Screwing him out of $75 is just wrong.
