Fired!

First of all if you work for someone else then you will most likely get fired at sometime during your life. It happens to just about everyone. If you don't get fired then you probably aren't working. The problem comes in when you are fired multiple times. No one is keeping a "record" of how you were fired or resigned. Your former employer can't even tell a prospective employer you were fired unless they want to get into a big old fat lawsuit.

You will simply have to come up with an acceptable answer if someone asks you about it in the future. The fact that you are even worried about this indicates to me that you are probably a reliable person. Don't sweat it.

Go collect the unemployment. That is what it is there for.
 
1. Today, most companies will not give a reason for firing someone. Usually it will go something like, "your services are no longer required." The reason for this is because it can open them up to litigation inasmuch as if they gave you a reason then it might not be a legal reason. Attorneys have trained HR people to not give a reason. So you won't usually get a reason if the company is smart. You are not entitled to a reason.

I'd just like to point out that this is only true in non-union jobs. If you have a union job, the company is required to provide a termination letter that includes the justification for the termination, demonstrating that it was "for cause." The employee then has the right to grieve the termination and let the arbitrator decide whether the termination was with just cause or not. Unions win roughly 75% of termination grievances.

Another reason to work for a union company.

If you resign then you can not collect unemployment.

So I wouldn't get too excited about resigning.

Bad advice in this business. Resigning is almost always a better option, because PRIA ensures that future employers get your employment history, including the reason for separation.
 
Hey Jhugz, sorry to hear about the tough break.

Spring time will be here shortly, and If I was without job I'd head to the beach for a summer of tail-wheel building banner flying!

Pay sucks, but it would be an adventure/memory of a summer.
