Comair Mesaba Merge??

So theres some talk on our web boards that Richard Anderson announced Comair and Mesaba are merging. Have any Comair guys heard anything over there? I'm furloughed in April regardless so I don't have a dog in this fight but once they announced they were parking the Saabs, most people at Mesaba saw the writing on the wall for a merge. Jeeze, won't that be a cluster. Two regionals with a bunch of lifers at both companies merging. Have fun with that one. My chance of recall at Mesaba went from 50 percent to about .001 percent.

Guess it was a hoax newspaper article. Nothing to see here move along.

Although it's probably gonna happen sooner or later. Not a matter of if, but when, IMHO.

I might be wrong, but I think they are merging maintenance departments or something, nothing with pilots...

Howard, any info on this?

I musta missed the "for sure" announcement on parking ALL the Saabs, too. I heard they were reducing them more this year, but I hadn't heard they were parking all of them.

Nevermind, I think somone on reserve had a little too much time on their hands and made the whole thing up.

It's a forgone conclusion. It would make no sense to just park the 23. They are probably all gone by 2012. Maybe sooner. It's no secret RA doesn't like turboprops. I'm guessing we will be down to just the 41 900s. If that happens, they can forget about the flow being beneficial. With all the lifers here, nobody will be moving anywhere. I know I've only been here for 2 years, and there are airlines with many more problems than Mesaba, but it's just sad what the senior guys at our company have been through. Build us up, then furlough and take us apart. Build us up again, then furlough. Seems like a 4 year cycle at this airline. That can't be cost effective and it just messes up pilot morale. Sorry for the rant.

What about the -200s? I had an insane XJ mechanic raving on the tram in MSP yesterday about how XJ was losing Saabs, 9E was getting flying in MEM and we were getting their -200s now. I was like "WAAHHHH? When and why?"

He doesn't like turboprops? You know he was CEO of Northwest, right?

Yea I know. Once we became a part of the DCI family, it was evident the Saabs were the first to go. And the 200s are probably gone as well. Which will leave us with the 41 900s. Would it be wishful thinking at that point the 900s will then be flown at mainline. Naw, nevermind.

We've heard that rumor too at OH. Let's see the union demanded we pay $240 for a merger fee about a year ago. Haven't heard anything about what that money is for. Guys talking about a class action lawsuit to get our money back. $240 X 1100 pilots= some fatcat running around N. Kentucky ordering extra Skyline Chilli.

Dumbest move you can make if in fact there is merger mania in the air.

Agreed.

A merger fund is pretty important, because of a couple of different reasons --

1) It is not permitted to use regular dues money to hire attorneys for merger/acquisition.
2) There are only a limited number of law firms that specialize in this practice.
2a) Therefore, to secure some of the best attorneys (once a law firm is retained by one side, they won't work both sides against the middle) an amount significant enough to retain them needs to be assessed.

I could see this happening, I could also see a lot more things happening as well. I was always curious as to why Mesaba didnt change the tail numbers of the 89's and AY's to their standard XJ tail numbers but I don't think that means they are not going to keep them. If they gave them to us, then there would be hardly any 200 flying in MSP if our Close MSP open LGA rumor happens.
In the End I just think we are all screwed.

It costs money to change the tail numbers, even if it is a tiny amount (paint+fees.) Mesa still has the standard PDT tail numbers on every Dash they acquired from them.

I'm still thinking IF we got the LGA flying, they'll open a LGA base, see who bids for it and then shrink MSP through attrition. Closing MSP would trigger a landslide of displacements that, last count, would affect 500 pilots. Paying out displacement benefits to 500 pilots would bankrupt the company. Then again, maybe that's why they just negotiated that $10 million line of credit from some bank in Memphis. Some people are saying they'll just have a re-bid up and down the seniority list, BUT I don't think they CAN do that unless the union agrees to it. If they did, I'm pretty sure some people would burn their houses down.

Isn't that the truth. Whatever happens, good luck. Hey if anything, should free up some gates for you guys in DTW and MSP when our saabs are gone. Eh, nevermind. With RGS or RHS, or whatever that ground handling service is called still running the show, you guys are still gonna be waiting to get parked at a gate.

We are having a badge vote at Mesaba right now. I'm voting for this one:

What do you all think? :) Our new badge doesn't even have Delta Connections on it. That's gotta be a good sign right?
