"hiring freeze" news....

Got an email from NATCA today regarding many things, but one was about the Hiring freeze....here is the the portion of the email....

"In discussions with the Agency on other issues, we inquired about two items that prompted many calls and emails from the field facilities to the national office earlier in the week; 1) the reduction of service from the Raytheon instructors and 2) rumors of an ATC hiring freeze. The FAA responded that the Raytheon contract was simply being scaled back to its original amount. So while the word in the field is that they are cutting by 30%, in reality the contract was 30% over budget and they are simply bringing those expenditures back within contractual parameters. Regarding the rumor of a hiring freeze, they said there was no hiring freeze. They did relay that some lines of business were pushing back the hiring of their allotment until later in the year."

So they didn't lower their hiring #'s. Just delayed. If I get anything else I'll let ya know

Word that I received was that the FAA will NOT be hiring from the general public in 2010. I honestly hope that is not true, but that's exactly what I heard from Aviation Careers :(

We're arguing semantics. This is a freeze. I think those who were already picked up from PUBNAT 7 will get TOLs, especially if they're Vet Pref. Everyone else . . . . time for plan B.

I got my TOL way back in September, went through all of the drug tests psyche evals and background checks and still havent got a training date yet. Per my HR rep, back in November, she said she was expecting a spring training date. Do you think this will affect me? I am definitely getting kind of nervous.

Count yourself EXTREMELY lucky if you got a TOL in September and to get in by October of this year. I've had mine for just shy of a year, and others on here have had theirs even longer, and we're still waiting for a training date as well. It's going to affect most of us.

Is this "hiring freeze" for OTS only or is it also for CTI grads?

From my understanding, CTI grads are still being picked up across the board.

I thought what I posted would clear up that it's not a hiring freeze. Just a Delay.

What do you think a "freeze" is? It's a delay. Same thing. If a company goes on a hiring freeze, they are delaying their employment opportunities til further notice. You guys crack me up for arguing the differenced between black and ebony...

So, will all of my clearances still be valid (i.e. drug test, psyche, security)? Or will I have to do all that stuff again?

Also, I turn 29 this year, when am I no longer eligible because of my age?

Haha. You should've known better than to try and stop the rumor that'll never die. How many times since we've been here have a group of people clamored about a "hiring freeze", only to mysteriously disappear once it's revealed -- once again -- that it ain't happening? At least it keeps the wait entertaining.

So, uh, how's New York?

I'm so jealous that your goin to ZSE. I've lived here on Long Island my entire life so the traffic and expensive EVERYTHING isn't new, but I'm sick of it. I do love my center, and being in oceanic. (I get to do both non radar and radar which is cool). Also, 2 of my best friends from okc went to zse. I'd leave ZNY to go work with them immediately. I feel bad for you man, been waiting so long and your always on here dishing out the same info to all the new people who never want to 'search'. lol. I got passed by pubnat1, but was lucky enough to get in on pubnat2, an only had a TOL for 1.5 months before getting 2 weeks notice for okc. Seeing what is happening I'm thankful everyday I'm done and training. I hope the same happens for you and you get squeezed into a class. Good luck.

Warm fuzzies, bip. I'll get there sooner or later. By that point you may've decided to pack up and join us in Seattle. We're gonna need some people from Long Island to even out the soft West Coasters anyway. Besides, in the meantime, I get to go do things that I probably couldn't interrupt my "real" career for... like live in airports for a month. Life ain't all bad, baby!
