So you want a job at Delta

BTW, the flowback for Mesaba is at either 10 or 13 right now. Supposedly Compass can get wiped out except for the last 10%, Mesaba will accept 10 or 13 total pilots because thats how many have flowed up.

Boy that compass flowup deal is just such a gamble (to my eyes). It could pay off big, or you could just bone yourself.

That is true, it can go both ways.

Most of the people at Compass that I know are there because it was a better option than whatever they were doing before. Additionally there would be 6-18 months notice 'til furloughed in the event of flowback.

Had a Delta gate agent tell me that he hopes Pinnacle's contract gets canceled. Have also been forced to switch gates to help sabotage our on-time performance. Also been forced to open the door after block-out because some passenger left their laptop in the terminal, at cost to our on-time.... had Comair pilots abuse us over the radio; had ASA pilots abuse us over the radio, AND block our taxi in (two separate incidents)...
<edited> Quit worrying about other people and companies so much. No one is trying to sabotage your A-14. Switching gates to screw your on time, give me a break. We all switch gates all the time for many different reasons. People abusing you over the radio??? <edited> Do your job and quit blaming others for some petty thing that happens to you.

BTW, the passengers pay your salary, who cares if you had to open the door to help one out.

At our company? I'm surprised they did it. I delayed a flight because a passenger thought she left a bag with her money in the gate area. Gate agent said "I have to close the door by XX time." I said "XX time? We'd still have another 4 minutes before we're due out! We're not leaving until we know where the bag is." Wouldn't ya know? I got a phone call wanting to know why I delayed the flight, even thought I sent a detailed delay report. There are bonuses tied into our on-time D0 departures, and it's pretty obvious which way management leans when it comes to their money or the passenger's needs.

I'm not normally one for "conspiracy theories".... but, when you show up to a gate, that is open, and you've got 8 minutes until you're supposed to block in, and they tell you, nope, not your gate, you've got to wonder.

Quit blaming others? So, you're telling me as a professional that it's cool to abuse other airlines' pilots over the radio? Of course I do my job, and I'd love to be able to be in control of why things go well or poorly. Unfortunately, a lot of the time, stuff is out of our control.

"BTW", the passengers don't pay "our" salaries. We're FFD.... depending on the ASA, we're paid whether we've got 1 passenger, or 76, exactly the same. On a daily basis, we get it beaten into our heads exactly what kellwolf was talking about: D0, A14, most important.

Appreciate your professional response.

I'm just tired of reading your whining over stupid petty things that effect every other carrier out there. And, YES, the passengers pay Delta, which in turn pays pinnacle so they do pay your salary. For all you know that passenger may have been a million miler or whatever the hell they are. Yes, everyone is trying to be on-time, but to complain about having to open the door to accommodate a passenger laptop is absurd. Why weren't you smart enough to hand it through the service door?

As to the gate issue, delta controls the gates in ATL. You have no idea why they had someone else parking there. Maybe they had already moved a different flight numerous times and didn't want to move it again. Or maybe they had an air return, or an emergency. Once again, people are not trying to screw you. No one abuses anyone else over the radio. If it was "abuse" then get the tapes and do something about it. Everything's recorded so back up your statement with action.

Ok - well first of all - you don't have to read all my whiny posts. I'm sorry they all come off that way to you. As far as the service door - we're not allowed to open the service door after blockout because Pinnacle had, I believe, two separate incidents where the flight attendant "flew out" of the service door due to opening it.

Gate issue... well, I guess I really don't know. But it is kind of surprising to get the gate information at the departure point, then during the in-range, and finally, on the ground, and have it not change; but once we show at the gate, it changes.... hmmmm

As far as radio abuse, I'm not the only one, I'm sure...

You can land in DTW, see half the C concourse empty, and they'll tell you they don't have a gate for you. It's not just ATL. We sat over in the de-ice pad off Q for 30 minutes one day listening to them switch gates and help out planes that landed AFTER us. I'm tired of doing everyone's job, so I let it happen. We were 15 minutes early, so no pax had connection issues, so I was happy to sit there and get closer to 30/7 while they tried to figure it out. 'Course this was happening long before Delta and NWA merged, too.

But that's exactly my problem. "aevfo" may consider my complaints to be "bitching".... but when we manage to get the customer to the destination airport ON TIME, why should they suffer because of poor planning on the hub airports part.... ESPECIALLY when the gate we were assigned is open.

That reminds me of a funny story of an ASA guy who thought the Comair Ramp Tower guys at Concourse C in CVG had it out for ASA guys...

On the RIDS boards they used to display the number of passengers, for example it would show up as P46 (46 passengers). If the passenger count was unknown, it would show up as "P unk". Well, there was an ASA plane sitting at the gate and their board was flashing "Punk". The pilot complained and was whining because apparently the Ramp guys kept calling him and flashing PUNK at him.

HAHA :D I got a good laugh out of it...

Ahhh classic. Thanks for the laugh man. Ok ok it's no conspiracy :)

Rex- step away from the computer and have a beer.... relax!

Everyone gets screwed. Welcome to the airlines, that will be $5.

Pretty sure all the DCI carriers are getting equally screwed. Hell, I heard one of our guys complaining that "Now Comair gets the good gates in MEM" because they parked at A9 (or A11 or whatever the hell it is now) and he got C1.

All the gates in Memphis are good. You can use your two legs to get from any gate to the curb in less than 10 minutes.

Eh, not all. I'm not a huge fan of parking at A17, A21 or the occasional A23. It's ALWAYS a cluster. Three parking spots at each, when you show up the rampers look surprised to see you, and it takes them about 1-2 minutes of conversing to figure out where to park you. I've been taxiing to set myself up to park at the one with the least equipment around it. I've since learned that 9 times out of 10, they park you at the one with all the baggage carts and belt loaders in the middle of the parking spot. So, once they DO figure out that's where you go, then they have to move everything out of the way for you to park there. Oh, and there's no jetbridge and one ground power unit for 6 airplanes. Not the best thought out situation. But, the GOOD thing is, I can walk into ops, check out and then walk to the curb fairly quickly. Then you do the bus shuffle where you wait 20 minutes for the bus to show up only to be told "Yous gunna get da next one."

Another year we'll be out of your way for A25 and A33.
