Texas flying

One other point of interest in the San Antonio area. From 5C1 its just a short flight up to fredrickburg tx They have a nice diner on field, and nice hotel. Not sure if they have a courtesy car, but downtown fredirckburg is a nice place to visit. A lot of little shops, and the Nimitz museum. An easy full day of activities!

Austin area hit up 6th street, San antone hit up riverwalk/alamo, dallas can't help you there, Corpus maybe hit up the Lexington, hang out at beach (though it's probably pretty chilly by now).
Try to find local food eateries. For example in Austin check out Chuy's, Juan in a million (was on man vs. food) and Threadgills (considered to be the roots of where the austin music scene started from). All places have awesome food and hearty portions.

Thanks for all the advice, guys.
The girl im going with knows these areas pretty well, so I shouldn't have much trouble finding things to do during the day.

More advice on awesome-from-the-air-landmarks and airports nearby would be great!

Worthless without pics,...

Also, if you only make 1 bbq stop in TX, it needs to be Hard 8 at KSEP over Cooper's at KAQO. Hard 8 wins any day. Plus off-roading the golf carts in violation of the HUGE PLACARD on the windshield is icing on the cake.

Cooper's in Llano (AQO) is consistently rated one of the best BBQ places in Texas. Courtesy van there likes to shake non-stop while you're driving, but it'll get you there.

Also, +1 to Fredericksburg (Gillespie County). Nice diner about 50' from parking, cool motel, interesting downtown. No courtesy car, but there're cards for a "taxi" -- really just some guy's minivan -- that'll pick you up without much of a wait and doesn't cost much (or expect a tip). If you can catch one of the WWII live demos from the Nimitz Museum, there's a flamethrower involved.

involved.

Wait, Van?? They did away with the old cop car that you could drive 115 down the road by parallel to the runway?

I was there a few weeks back and there were still golf carts - the blue one that doesn't drive straight was running, the red one had run out of juice and had been abandoned at the hard 8.

I went there today. The red one is still dead at the Hard 8 and there weren't any others at the airport. :(

+1 on AQO over SEP (Hard 8). Free beer ain't there anymore, so that doesn't make it worth it. Cooper's is MUCH BETTER....just saying. The van ROCKS!!!

It hasn't been that long.. maybe a year or two. They did have an old cop car. It was a 1990 something crown vic with the police package (mods) that were never removed.. That car would move.

The van doesn't sound near as much fun as that damn beat up cop car.
