Texas flying

Visiting Texas with a friend to see her family this winter break, and was wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere to fly?

We're going to be in:
Dallas, Corpus Christi, Austin, and San Antonio at various times for various lengths.

I'm hoping a local can tell me what would be the most interesting for a tourist to see, and recommend a good place to rent from.

Thanks guys!

11R is pretty cool. Its where they make BlueBell ice cream and they have an awesome 50's diner on the ramp.

I'd recommend Skymates at KGKY(Airlington, TX which is roughly 13 miles from KDFW) because they have amazingly nice staff and very nice aircraft. If your more towards Addison there is Monarch Air which is more expensive than Skymates. I'm not good at recommending places to fly, but T67 has the Rio Concho cafe which has amazing food. haha.

When in the DFW area feel free to check us out at AviatorAir in Grand Prairie (KGPM) (www.aviatorair.com). Newer 172's both analog and glass cockpits. It's a nice quiet airport with a no hassle, airspace free shot out to the south. If you want a checkout, ask for Brett!

KSEP (Clark - Stephenville, TX) is a very popular destination for many of us. There's a great BBQ place within walking distance. There used to be golf carts, but word is they're gone now due to people abusing them.

Everywhere you go is going to want to do a renter's checkout, probably.

From Austin, flying out to AQO is nice and scenic. Done that a bunch of times.

Hard 8 BBQ is amazing... plus they serve free beer. And last time I was there both golf carts were broke and all I had to do is call the place and they sent someone to pick me and my friends up.

I was there a few weeks back and there were still golf carts - the blue one that doesn't drive straight was running, the red one had run out of juice and had been abandoned at the hard 8.

+1 on the Hard Eight.

I just got back from an 8 rotation in San Antonio. All there really is to do is hit the river walk and maybe check out the Alamo which is close by. Dick's Last Chance is an entertaining eatery.

Hard 8 at SEP
Cooper's at LZZ.

There's good tang around KFTW, KFWS, KDTW, KDFW, KDAL, KRBD, KGKY, KAUS, KACT, KSAT,

BREAK BREAK

There's good tang everywhere in Texas. Enjoy yourself.

BREAK BREAK

Except Del Rio.

LLano has good BBQ, Fredricksburg has the hanger hotel/diner. Then theres the 50's diner at 11R.

Out flight school as pretty easy check out requirements.. Don't crash the plane on 3 touch and goes (usually).

Just going to reinforce the level of awesome that hard 8 is. There is BBQ and then there is Hard 8. yeah it's that awesome. Free Beer. Free Beens. If you don't get the banana pudding you are missing a lot.

You must get the banana pudding!!

+1 on 11R. Go to the diner on the field, then get a courtesy car to go to the Blue Bell ice cream factory.

If you're in Dallas you can go east to the Longview (GGG) area. I flew out there during Thanksgiving break and it's nice, peaceful flying with all the open space and lakes. :)
