Crazy/good flying skills

I have always thought the "Flying Farmer"/"Flying Drunk" act was the most under-rated and probably one of the more dangerous acts in an airshow. This was one of the best I've ever seen, particularly his egress from the airplane.

Probably? that is the most rediculously insane thing I have ever seen

Looks like that puts a beating on the wingtips!!

I was wondering about that - they must have some kind of aluminum around the wing-tips to create that - the fabric would simply tear. Also - looking at it is clear that he doesn't put any kind of a real "load" on the wingtips - simply scrapes them across the runway. I am amazed at the amount of precision that takes, as well as his landing rollout and everything else. It takes an extraordinary amout of skill to make flying look that "bad". Talk abount insane amounts of aircraft control! I would imagine T-cart could do this in an Air Tractor.

I think he has skid plates mounted out there. he's got to have some sort of protection or it would chew the wing off.

Waco, about half my landings look similar to that. :D

he has steel skid plates on the wingtips. I cant find it now but there was a video of an interview with him where he shows the skid plates and the modifaction to the landing gear to allow the hard landings There is another guy who does this as well. I forget his name but hes the same guy who does the worlds shortest landing on top of a pickup truck with a cub.

Kent Pietsch or Greg Koontz?

I saw Kent Pietsch do a similar act in an Intersate Cadet at Reno a couple years ago... in his version though pieces "fall off" of the airplane ;)

When the tire fell off it nailed a car that was sitting on the ramp haha, hope they got the extra insurance!

Man walks into a maintenance shop.

"I need my landing gear reinforced so I can land it really hard and drag a wingtip down the runway without hurting anything."

"Your just farm animal stupid aren't you?"

It's really cool to see someone who has perfected his flying skill, like this guy.

I resemble that remarks!:D

There is hope for me yet!

The Pietsch brothers have a Monocoupe they rebuilt some years ago that is amazing. They have other nice restorations as well and are working on a Luscombe Phantom. I particularly like the Phantom, the Monocoupe 110, the Monocoupe 110 Special, and the Waco F-2.

I'll try it in the Pawnee tomorrow, it's got those wooden things on the wingtips :)

If you don't get it on video it didn't happen!

Actually i was talking about Charlie Kulp "the flying farmer". He preformed at the flying circus in Va and recently retired at the age 82.

Not only is his flying incredible, but he looks like he's having a hell of a good time doing it too! I agree with Waco in that this is probably one of the most dangerous routines in an airshow when you combine the low altitudes, low speeds, and extreme exaggeration of maneuvers.
