United Airlines orders Boeing 787, Airbus planes (AP)

Re: United Airlines orders Boeing 787, Airbus planes (AP

First flight for the 787 is supposed to be sometime between Dec 14 - Dec 22 ... err, this time. :p

Re: United Airlines orders Boeing 787, Airbus planes (AP

The article did say they would be parking 767s and 747s during the delivery time.

Seggy must now bust your balls.
I couldnt open the link so I was guessing or pissing in the wind whichever is more colorful. Seggy is not allowed to bust my balls. He is not allowed. :)

But he is a connoisseur of balls...

Re: United Airlines orders Boeing 787, Airbus planes (AP

Order both and see who can deliver first, cancel other order....;)

That's the first thing I thought when I saw this. United had admitted in the past that their mixed fleet was hurting their bottom line. Why buy two different airplanes aiming to accomplish the same mission? One of these two orders will be canceled.

Because they don't do the same mission, unless your saying that a 767 and 777 do the same mission.

Re: United Airlines orders Boeing 787, Airbus planes (AP

The 787 line, on paper, will expand to offer an aircraft the size of a 777. The A350, on paper, will supply an aircraft the size of a 777 and a model just a bit larger than a 767. They are ordering two different types that, on paper, could do the same. If the 787-10 becomes a reality, cancel the A350 and order several different models of the 787 to suit your needs. If the 787 is delayed another few years and the A350 stays on track, cancel the 787 order. The difference in capacity between the smallest proposed A350 model and the 787-8 is minor. Either manufacturer could satisfy United's needs.

Re: United Airlines orders Boeing 787, Airbus planes (AP

I dunno, the whole thing is just kind of lame imo. I can say I am definitely gonna buy a hoverboard whenever they're built but its kind of a moot point isn't it.

Personally I'd much rather see ual work on staying in business until the 787 / 350 come out. Maybe just maybe start with the customers. Their customers shouldn't have to ring the call button 3 times over a 10min period to get some water halfway across the atlantic.

Re: United Airlines orders Boeing 787, Airbus planes (AP

Isnt Boeing doing the first 787 test flight this month?

Re: United Airlines orders Boeing 787, Airbus planes (AP

I am happy that UAL is ordering new planes. But I am very troubled by the fact that they are ordering 2 type of A/Cs with the same function (medium capacity, long haul). Did they not learn from PAN AM?

:rawk::rawk::rawk:

Next, how about something mainline to replace the 737s? Probably too much to ask for.

They already have them.

Dude don't you know? Pax dig the RJs. You should see the smiles on the buisnessmen's faces when they board a CRJ-700 going from SFO-MCI. I bet they're very impressed in first class when the flight attendant hands them a $6 snack box.

:sarcasm:

I'll agree that the CRJs are crap from a pax stand point.

I'll give you a hint as to which airplane scored the highest on passenger comfort surveys for a certain major airline. It was the plane I was a CA on - so you have a 50-50 shot.

They really do love the airplane that is the answer. I do too!
