AP - United Airlines on Tuesday said it would buy its first new jets since 1998, splitting an order for 50 planes between Airbus and Boeing Co.What are they parking?
Question for the airplane followers: Isn't the 787 and A350 pretty much the same seat category and mission?
Also, the order for an aircraft not even in flight test. Very interesting.
It will be a huge win or a huge fail.
Gambles like that make champions though....
Not really. The 787 is more of a 757/767 replacement program. With the order being 787-800's, they'll probably replace/augment the 767-300. Whereas the A350 is really targeted as a 777 replacement. With United ordering the 350-900, you could look at that as a 772A model replacement
My guess is it will be either a one for one trade or more airplanes will end up in the desert. I hope I am wrong though.
Hopefully it happens. Although I've been conditioned to immediately wonder 'whats the catch' anytime I hear anything good about ual.
Isn't there supposed to be some super-stretch -1000 model or some crap? Anyway, I saw #1 there in Everett collecting dust on the floor during a factory tour. Looks like an ugly 767 from where I saw it.
The article did say they would be parking 767s and 747s during the delivery time.
Seggy must now bust your balls.
Continental ordered a bunch back in, what, 2005? They still haven't seen one... this news is kind of anticlimactic...
Super stretch -1000 what, A350 or 787? IIRC, there is going to be both. The A350-1000 would essentially have the size and range of a 777-300ER. The 787-10, which is essentially a replacement for 772A, or a direct A350-900 competitor. Both are way, way off, likely no earlier than a 2015 or later EIS.
The 787-10 is just a paper airplane, Boeing has not announced if they are going to build it......
