We only have bottled water on the business jets that I fly, and we rotate stock. I guess that I just assumed that when the airlines use the word "potable" they actually mean it.

Leather seats on a plane tend not to retain the smell of the previous passenger, too...and they're easier to clean.
 
I can't tell you how many times we used to open up the valve of the "potable" water and see all kinda of gunk in there.

I would never, EVER drink any type of coffee or tea or anything else that comes out of that potable water tank...
 
All coffee, tea, hot towels... any "water" product that is made ON the airplane has had the water drawn from the potable water tanks.

The exception to this is the planes that do not have potable water tanks! Such as the ATR, EMB, etc. The coffee on those planes comes from the station, and is put into coffee pots on the plane that plug into heating outlets in the galley. That brings about it's own issues, like how long has it been since that coffee has been made, how long has it been since that pot has been cleaned, etc!

Bottom line: the best coffee does NOT come from the airplane, at all. Get it at the Starbucks in the airport.

Yeah I was even surprised how many other FA's drank that stuff knowing full well where it came from... I guess after so many years of doing it they figured what's the use... lol :)

The XJT ERJ's have this plastic tank between 3B,C that accessed by a door facing the aisle. They dump bottled water in it. Now considering that you can easily see into the tank, and easily replace the tank, I will drink coffee from an ERJ. I figured that setup was the case for all ERJs not just the XJT ones, interesting.

No, Eagle doesn't have any sort of "tank" on the EMBs. It's just coffee pots that plug into powered spots in the galley.

So, if there's a plastic tank between 3B,C, does that mean that the people in seats 4B,C don't have any underseat stowage?
 
Oh, I meant between 3B,C and the galley. About chest high, on rollers that make it slide out into the aisle. Probably 8 or so gallons.
