Calling all Qualified ATSAT scored test takers

I would like to know where all the people are who scored less than 85 on their ATSAT. I know I'm one of them, I scored a 78.2. It just seems to me that everyone on this forum in JC has scored in the 90's or higher. I really like to know if anybody here has scored less than 85 and has gone on to passing all their exams at OKC and is doing ok for themselves at whatever facility their at, even if its a facility of their own choosing.

I guess I really want to know is if there's any hope of me getting a job with the FAA with my somewhat ok score. I took my ATSAT on Oct. 27 2009 and i'm new to these boards but have been lurking over the past month.

just curious, how did you do on your simulations. i was also wondering if there were those who didn't score 90 or above on here. the stories of people leaving their test feeling like they bombed it and then scored in the 90's is filling me with a false sense of confidence i'm afraid. i've been studying and practicing tests in all cattagories and i feel like i got this, but surely it's not as easy as everyone talks about right?

I echo this post. I took my test yesterday, and while I haven't gotten my score back yet, I pretty much know I bombed the test. The test was NOT easy by any stretch of the imagination. At this point I'd be thrilled with a 70.

Also, I think this forum has a disproportionate number of WQs. I think some people would be reluctant to post that they failed the AT-SAT, more than likely they would just disappear and never post again.

flying writer, what did you do to prepare for your test? if i go in and do bad, i will be at peace with it knowing that i did everything i could do to prepare for it. i've held 4 ratings, and i know i can do atc and do it well. i'm currently studying some material i purchased on atc-sat.com and i think it is pretty good. tell me what you think prepared you the best. also how many planes did you have at one time in the scenarios?

I studied the stuckmic.com study guide, played the online simulations, and made my own math problems to practice.

HShip,

I took the test on 11/3. The stuckmic study guide was the best preparation for me. The math on atc-sat.com was a little too simple and I didn't feel was an adequate representation of the difficulty of questions asked on the actual ATSAT. In regards to the scenarios portion, at one point during the simulation, there was 7-8 planes on the screen to start out with. Unless you fail to get them where they are going, that is the most you should see. This poor lady next to me had about 20 on her screen with half of them lighting up red!

Good luck!

I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a very well defined process for panels. Selection commitee members are required to exhaust all (technically all by two) WQ applicants before turning to the Q list. In fact, they are required to offer each of them jobs before they can turn to the Q list. In earlier PUBNATs, there were fewer applicants so it was not unheard of for a Q person to be selected. In addition, there have been rare exceptions which we don't fully understand. These people could have had preferences or experience that we don't know about.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade. I'm really not. I just tell it like it is.

Don't give up though. Keep applying and a year from your test date you can re-take the test. Consider applying to a CTI school as finishing will increase your chances and it's possible that, even with the 2 years of school, you will get in faster.

The highest efficiency score I recieved was a 56 and the lowest was a 39. I did pretty good on the ATC scan test and the Math Dials and Angles were easy too. The letter factory was ok but the awarness questions were a toss up, although I started to get the hang of it towards the end. Honestly except for the ATC Scenarios and letter factory I felt good leaving that test only to find out I nearly bombed the test.

Pretty ironic don't you think and I thought the math part was heavily weighted which would of bode well for me since the math came easy to me.:insane:

Sounds like you did better than me. I got a 79/74/75/36 on the Scenarios and I bombed the math. I might have actually failed the test.

bxblasta, that sucks. you just missed it. do you have any experience with atc? that will definately help if you do.

stlsiuc, thanks for the info, i've been running the scans and scenarios on stucmic and they are pretty good. i like the math on this website better too. was anyone else amazed at the narrow window you get to land the planes at the airports???? crazy, i would do wonderful at the scenarios if my planes would stay down at the airports lol!

flyingwriter, have you got your test scores back yet?, i hope you passed!!!!!

My advice to anyone that did not score WQ on the AT-SAT is to keep applying to other announcements and get scheduled to take the test again. You do have to wait a year before you can actually go in an take the test a second time though. The FAA selects all of the WQ people before they even consider a Q candidate. With a score in the 70's you will most definitely make the referral list. But, you may be too low on the list to actually be selected. Don't get discouraged though. A lot of people have had to take the AT-SAT twice.
I have completed all of my steps, have been fully cleared and I am currently waiting on my FOL. So, if anyone needs someone to answer some questions about what to expect when it comes to the hiring process and jumping through all of the hoops... Feel free to send me a private message!

Well I'm in this boat. I scored a 83.5. I was considering trying to do the CTI route but at 29 I think I'm just to old to start and not enough time or cash to do it.

Just have to wait until next Oct and take it again.......as long as OTS announcements are still opening then.

i dont think the actual senarios matter that much i dont think i got above a 68 on mine and scored wq.

What he said. As important as you'd figure that part should be, it doesn't seem to be weighted that heavily. People have slammed together a plane or two and still come away with a 100.

And I think the efficiency score may not matter at all, but don't go quoting me on that -- it's just my own personal conclusion after having heard hundreds of people talk about their test scores and how they did on that particular part. In other words... my two cents.

Some day, I like to think that I'll get to know the people behind the AT-SAT, and I'll be able to convince them to tell me how everything is scored and weighted. By then it won't matter, of course, but it's this burning curiosity, even a year after I took mine. It's one of those great unknowable questions, like why we have dreams, or the chicken and the egg.

Preach! I took the test for PUBHI and scored an 81.6 11/3/08. Had I done better, it seems I might've been done with basics or in class at the academy by now. I also didn't take this test as seriously as I should've, being that I was more interested in taking my mini vacation to Hawaii. I don't post at all on these forums but I do lurk from time to time to find out when the next PUBNAT is and I have applied to PUBNAT5/6/7/8 and Alaska since then. No dice as far as any panels go.

I'm a little upset that there's testing this week and I'm not eligible because according to aviation careers, the PUBNAT8 that I applied to closed before my one year was up, even though the test dates given were after my one year anniversary of the first test. So now I'm just waiting until I'm able to retest/reapply if they even have another PUBNAT. Not really considering a CTI school as I'm pretty young and if OTS hiring continues I think I have a decent chance provided I do better on the test. It used to bother me that so many others after me would score much higher but now I'm happy for them and I've had a chance to really pinpoint what I can improve on.

btw, I scored in the 80s on the scenarios and completely guessed on the letter factory questions. The math wasn't so difficult, neither were the angles questions.

Wow, after hearing all of these test stories and resulting scores, I'm starting to think AT-SAT scoring is completely random. As in, they draw your name from a hat and blurt out a random number between 50 and 100. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to these tests.

No, I still haven't gotten my scores.

My mama always said " AT-SAT scores are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." :D
