Hey Everyone,

Just recently got my CFI and am looking to start instructing part-time. Just wondering if anyone knew of anything around the ME,NH, MA area??

Thanks!!

Although it's pretty slow at MIF right now I would stop in or call the chief instructor or if you want send me a resume and I'll give it to him. It never hurts to show interest especially if the need arises for another instructor at some point. By the way, how have you been?

You can replace MIF with our place in BHB and the rest of the post is exactly the same.

I know we will be looking for a scenic pilot or two next summer, I know its not instructing, but its getting paid to fly, and there might be a pop up instructing opportunity or two.

It will probably have to be VFR 135 mins. 500TT and all that jazz. Past that its all about personality and knowledge of the area, or at least the ability to learn and BS it quick.

Executive flyers out of mostly KBED and a few planes at KLWM or East Coast Aero Club out of mostly KBED and a few planes at KASH.

Those are probably by far the most steady/large/busy flight schools around. Id say at either you could probably do a minimum of 80 hours per month. I did closer to 120+ while there. Executive may be looking but they are highly competitive around this time because they can be and their current CFIs arent going anywhere.

If you want to have a good time contact Mike or Cheryl at Hampton and teach almost exclusively in J3 cubs out of a grass strip.

Hey, pretty good..how are you doing? I will probably stop by at some point and drop off a resume and say hey..still the same chief instructor up there?

Great, I would definitely be interested in that..could you PM the contact info? Thanks!

exec is slow because its almost winter, same as any place in NE. Im sure it will pick back up next spring

I'm doing pretty well...I'm still instructing and it's been good. Yeah we still have the same chief instructor up here. It must feel pretty good to finally get your CFI...congrats!

How do you become a aerobatic instructor at Executive Flyers. I fly alittle bit of aerobatics now in a decathlon owned by a friend of my dads and becoming a airshow pilot is my goal. Just wondering how you would get in there? Working with Goulian would be amazing!

It is true that it slows down in the winter, but not usually this much or this early. Hopefully we'll feel the rebound in the spring.

Just went for a run and saw a plane overhead towing a banner advertising an open house at Air Direct at KASH. It's a small place but maybe things are picking up?

You would have a shot. When I applied they were about to lose their full time acro guy who for the most part only did acro. I only had VERY limited acro experience but fairly extensive tailwheel time in numerous types from bird dogs to stearman and the T6.

Almost right away when I started there they trained me for around ten hours to teach unusual attitudes and simultaneously put me through their acro courses. When Mike signed me off I started teach unusual attitudes which also included a few very basic maneuvers in the course as well. After a while I graduated into teaching basic acro and then sportsman. When I left (I moved an hour away and did not want to drive 1.5 hours in traffic to and from work 6 days per week) I was flying a few hours of acro/unusual per day.

To get hired they would have to have need for an acro guy and you would have to have all of your other CFI ratings (no MEI wouldnt hurt that much since you wont fly the twin anyway) and you would have to have a solid interview. Its all luck and timing. They can be finicky with who they hire and they turn down alot of people.

Unless you taught/performed competition level acro you will still be retrained because EFA takes acro and unusual to the next level since they are one of the more premier acro schools around.

As for flying with Mike....you will almost never see Mike. During red bull season he is gone for all but a few days every month and you will only see him in passing. There is also air show season which has him away so you may see him a few days if that and then only for a few short moments.

I flew with him maybe 4 times in the super decathlon while I was there.

You can always call and see if they are looking. Ask for Marc, he is more or less in charge of the acro program over there.

Hey thanks for the info...As far as being competitive, do they require the II/MEI or can you get those once you get hired there?

Thanks! yeah it definitely was a long process..glad to finally be done..now just looking forward to putting it to use hopefully..

When I was hired just the CFI was required and you had to commit to getting your II in some time frame (30 days-90 days, I dont remember.) It was free except for renting the plane at an instructor rate for the ride.

The MEI, I am not sure if they would really care about that. The multi works on a monopoly there meaning that only a few guys fly it and those guys are not and will not be you. Most get it at some point in a year or so.

That was when I was there over 2 years ago, I would imagine times have definitely changed there. If they needed anyone at all I would assume they have more than their share of CFI,CFII,MEI applicants with multiple hundreds of hours of dual given. I really have no idea.

For Executive, CFII is not required but preferred, and yes, they still would like you to get your CFII within a few months of being hired. Only have one twin, and its for the senior CFI, so it wont help to have an MEI at this point.

2-3 hours a week?? I fly enough to make rent and eat every month, so it's alot more then 2-3 hours a week.

As for Acro, last I heard we were looking for an "experienced" formation pilot.
