Newark approach controllers absolute hatred of the flying roadblock is hilarious. If this were the 1940's, the van would have a seperate fueling fountain, err truck.

Hey... I've been asked to slow down before... when the traffic ahead of me is another Van-proving that somehow it is a speedbump to other speedbumps.

Controller: Slow to 170
Me: My max speed is 150
Controller: Oh.


Controller: slow to your slowest pratcial airspeed.
Me: Uh, this is a Caravan. Are you sure?
Controller: Maintain 110 knots.


And the best when following a MD-80 down the ILS.

Controller: Martex, you've got a 20 knot overtake on the jet in front of you.
Me as the overspeed horn is chirping: OK, I'll slow it down.

The usual routine is for approach to assign best forward speed, then as soon as you check on with tower, they tell you to slow down.

The question i always had, especially in the lear...
"Maintain 170 to the marker"
Can i speed up afterwards?
