Re: Fallen JC member, BDHill1979

I wish news entities would proofread their stuff before they post it.

In one article it says "According to rescue officials, the Hill was flying a Cessna 210 and was landing"

The hill.

Another it says "Benjamin Hill, 30, was on.." then later " The 32-year-old pilot leaves behind a wife and two children."

Proofread your crap. Especially on a story like this.

Never met the guy, but this really hits home. RIP my brother.

Re: Fallen JC member, BDHill1979

It is truly sad to lose a member of our close knit community.

If anybody hears of a way that we can make a donation to the family, please post it on this website...

Me too on the donation. If somebody puts a fund together let us know.

Lot's of people would like to give. In most cases of a young father that passes, the community will set up a trust fund at a local bank that can accept wires and donations. This would be the easiest and most secure way to donate. I would ask the SLC group to watch the papers or news (sometimes it is included in the story) about something like this and let us know.

Re: Fallen JC member, BDHill1979

I will watch the news to see if a fund is set up. If not I can contact them and see if they know if a fund has been set up. Since he was a CFI at UVU, they may start a fund as well. I will post anything I find!

Re: Fallen JC member, BDHill1979

We've got some people working on the data right now. We should know more soon for where to donate.

Re: Fallen JC member, BDHill1979

I don't know the ropes when it comes to stuff like this, but it would be nice if we could start a JC fund and give to the family to show our support. For someone that knows more about this than me, would that be a possibility?

Re: Fallen JC member, BDHill1979

This is unbelievable!!! I'm so sorry to hear this news. Ben is the first pilot I've personally known to have passed... Though I never met him in person, I have conversed with him via PM in the past, and even bought an electronic E6-B from him when I first started my training. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family right now... :(

*edit* second person I've known to die in aviation now that I think of it... wow, just wow. :(

Re: Fallen JC member, BDHill1979

Noooooooooooooo!!!

Ben was my buddy!!!!! We went fishing, flew a ton together, had good talks, lunch. Freak the list goes on. I am so so so so sad to hear this. Jtrain told me and my heart just hurts soooo bad for his wife and two kids. I have 20 hours in that plane and almost bought it a few months ago. It was pampered and taken care of. It just came out of an annual and as per Ben's conversation I had with him last week it had injector problems. Their mechanis is one of the best in the state and knows that plane inside and out. I am working on contacting his employer but with no luck. If I find anything out as far as contact info I will relay it pronto.

The N number was N6869R owned by Six Nine Romeo LLC.

This is certainly something I need to look at. I'll try and troll the internet and see if the family has anything set up. If they don't, I'll get something going.

I met Ben in Las Vegas quite a while ago, back before we started ramping up the meet and greets and larger NJC events in order to get everyone together.

He was certainly a gentleman that I found to be wise beyond his years, quick with a smile and helped me realize that if there are people like him in our online community, I had to find a way to reach out and meet more.... then get those people together to collaborate and help others on our site.

I liked Ben a lot and both Kristie and I were really looking forward to seeing him this week in Las Vegas before he emailed and said he was a little under the weather and couldn't make it.

In the first two minutes of sharing a beer with him years ago, I knew he was the real deal.

If you guys get any additional information, let me know and we'll all get together and coordinate something for Ben's family.

Re: Fallen JC member, BDHill1979

RIP Ben. Even though I never met you, it still doesn't feel good. A PBR will be definitely be tipped for you. I'll never forget your insightful, yet humorous posts, and usually circling around to PBR somehow.

RIP.

Ryan

Nothing I can add that hasn't been said already. We are all a little better off for having known him, and he will be greatly missed here. RIP Ben. :(

Re: Fallen JC member, BDHill1979

I've gotta admit, this is kinda nonsensical unless you knew Ben.

But as soon as I heard about this, the first thing I thought was, "Jesus, what would Ben do...he'd get a beer."

Here's to you, Ben.
