Hell froze over at Eagle

How many airplanes has eagle parked so far? Will this balance it out by june of 10?

That's my big question too. Before getting excited about this being a "net gain" for the Eagle guys you have to ask this question. I'm sure their union and others will be on top of this issue as soon as possible and respond. Its great to think that this will be a GAIN for Eagle but with the way things have been going I think many of us are hesitant to get too excited....

just curious:

if they do recall furloughs....who else is/was in the hiring pool and what happens to that...just wondering but I'M NOT EXPECTING anything b/c it was 1.5 years ago that that happened

I was just wondering if the pool is still around, i assume it isn't but who knows

Im assuming the pool was dissolved after a certain period. After a year and a half alot of stuff can happen to a person to make them now an "unworthy" candidate for a pilot position.

But why in the hell would anyone want to go to Eagle now? Unless you planned on being their until 65.

I'm happy with one thing, primarily.

It's a move towards modernization of the Eagle fleet.

We've been on the slim side of the 70 seat market for a while now, and this will allow greater market flexibility on the whole.

How this will play out in the long run for the pilot group overall remains to be seen, but I'll wait and see.

In the interim... CHQ flying in ORD can't offset all the positions created by additional CRJs in ORD. It can affect a large chunk, but not all.

Here's the math, as I see it. Using data from airlinepilotcentral.com, there are 15 ERJ-140s flying for Chautauqua under the American Connection banner.

Using, say, 9 pilots per airplane, that comes to 135 pilots. Add in their furloughees and that's another 104 for a total of 239. That's worst case scenario. Not to mention, CHQ in ORD in those numbers would require all of the STL flying to cease completely. Unlikely.

So let's assume they move 135 active pilots to ORD. That leaves 104 to fill new positions.

22 CRJs at 9 pilots per seat equals 198 pilots left. CHQ pilots can't staff up the new CRJ additions. Word on the street is that the 140s will be doing flying to smaller cities with lighter loads.

Most likely what we'll see is ERJ-140 flying originating in STL, flying to a small outstation, then flying into ORD. They might work the rest of a 4 day in and out of ORD from there and return to STL via an outstation at the end of it.

AMR doesn't really benefit much from putting money in Republic's pocket as they're competing with them out of MKE and DEN for flying in ORD.

At this point, the cost of paying contract cancellation penalties probably outweighs the benefits of cutting them off and hiring new Eagle pilots.

Currently, CHQ's got a ready-to-go operation and they're stuck with them, so they're just going to intermix flying between STL and ORD like DFW and ORD have been doing for years.

Great news for Eagle. On a personal note, I'm devastated to be losing my STL base. I refuse to drive 2 hours just to commute to the busiest bleeping airport in the country. Looks like I'll be putting in for MCI, if there's a spot for me.

They have the 135 in MCI?

Might not all be good news. Looks like all the CHQ ERJ's are going to ORD to fill in for expansion there.

The question is, how many Eagle jobs might be lost to that?

I had thought that the number of 70 seat jets at Eagle was capped by the APA's scope. Is that incorrect, or is this just going to get grieved immediately?

DUDE you guys just went in a COMPLETE circle! I can't believe that happened you just restarted an old topic within a thread...:rotfl:

The scope allows for 50 70-seaters. It was grieved by APA and the arbitrator agreed that Eagle was allowed to excercise its CRJ options.

Yup... this wasn't a scope give in. This was the loss of a lawsuit.

Freaking more 70 seaters not flown by mainline. This crap has got to change.

The $64,000 question is what will mainline pilots give up to rope in scope? Pay? QOL? HAHAHAHA right. It will only get worse, trust me. Senior pilots will sell out the junior pilots.

Talk to the guys sitting to the left of you at work.

By the way 47 70's is a whole lot fewer then the 190 90's and 66's some other airline has farmed out.
My guess is you have no problem that your employer is using their feed (cheap 90 and 70 seat) to go after AMR on thin routes to give better feed for your long haul flights. AMR guys both AA and AE (We had one list done but management F-ed up) are the only ones holding the line. We could really use some help.

You Eagle guys have got to get off this transfer of flying=taking of flying BS. Yes, I agree that flying shouldn't be farmed out since you have guys on furlough (you guys being idiots and demanding the TSA birds back is another topic).

CHQ is just transferring flying, not adding flying, just like TSA did in Miami. TSA never picked up flying, just moved it. You guys are will be exactly where you were before PLUS the additional airframes. If the UAX carriers filed a grievance every time flying was transferred, there'd be a grievance from every pilot group every month and that's not an exaggeration.

Right. Too much misinformation and too many misconceptions on what is happening. Worse, pilots blaming pilots is never a good thing. Why don't more pilots put the blame on managers where it belongs?
