More Piedmont Furloughs for November 1st

Good luck.

Executing your departure plan?

I will be safe from the furloughs for now. Any future furloughs will most likely hit me.

I AM definitely affected regardless of being furloughed or not - I can only hold bottom lines now with all the captain downgrades and line reductions. By November I will most likely be either Build Up or Reserve in LGA. Then when LGA closes I will either be on reserve in a tiny town at one of the uncommutable crew bases or be furloughed (2 or 3 leg commute - which is not gonna happen).

I have personal obligations to remain here in San Diego, so I'd have to quit the job. In that case, I will do something totally different by going back to school - nothing related to aviation AT ALL. But, I am hoping to ride it out and take advantage of the unemployment benefits... and take a long vacation sponsored by the US government. :D

If no one were working where would the money come from?

Where does Governments money come from?

DINKS (dual income, no kid types)

Now you both take your shiny asses back to work now, mm'kay? :)

If no one worked, they wouldn't qualify for unemployment insurance.

Those that work, qualify.

Government money isn't the primary nor sole funding avenue for UI. Payroll taxes from your employer fund your respective UI. The government, currently, provides extended benefits through a subsidy so long as a state makes certain adjustments to their Unemployment Insurance structure.

Jace, will enjoy a vacation, if he is a furloughed, from his own contributions to society and his employers responsibility to properly staff their company. It's not necessarily off the back of the US Government, unless he goes on extended benefits - which right now - only about 15% of those who have exhausted their benefits continue to claim UI beyond their original expiration date.

Not a rhetorical question, but have you made an UI claim before?

It's isn't even off the US government. It's off the state you file for benefits in. My wife was on unemployment in Florida for a few months. Guess what? It DOES run out once you hit your limit. That limit is determined by how much you've worked in the past and has accumulated in your "bank." I'm sure each state has a different method, though.

Well, the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 provided federal government funds for "extended" unemployment benefits, of course with certain strings attached if the states wanted to accept the money.

I'd bet Mississippi didn't take it. They haven't taken any fed money since Jan 20th of this year. Probably b/c Barber is a potential candidate in 2012.

My question is why leave aviation? There is so much more to aviation than just flying part 121. Why not explore options in other segements of aviation such as Aerial Application or 135 or corporate. I think some the best jobs are small corporate flight jobs flying a airplane like a tbm. There is one out of ashland where my cherokee is that is a tbm700 that flies out and back the same day 5 times a week. That would be a sweet job.

I think they were the ones with gold plastic silverware? We still have some of that at my parents place.

I remember that! I can almost taste the bad food that came with it.

I'm sorry to hear that about the Piedmont (USAir Express guys). They always gave me a ride to my parent's house in ROA. A great bunch of people that I always enjoyed riding with.

You're missing the point, if everyone lost their job today who would pay for them? Where does that money come from? It sure as heck isn't "banked", it pays from those paying in. No one paying in = no one getting any unemployment.

The money comes from somewhere, it comes from those working, which you explained.

Ahh, that's too bad--PDT was one of the places I was looking to go after things started picking up again. Good luck to all.

Right, because its totally possible for EVERYONE to lose their job at the same time.

What was it, at the height of the Great Depression, 75% of Americans were working.

You've got some pie in the sky fantasy you're working on wheels. But whatever helps you to support your philosophy, have at it.

Still missing the point. He said he was taking a vacation courtesy of the US Government. I pointed out that in fact it's the citizens of the US that hand the government our tax dollars to fund these programs.

I'm not against taking unemployment.
I'm not saying everyone is going to lose their jobs.

Jeez.

But the citizens get their money from the company that they work for, so isn't it the businesses of the country that are collectively paying for his vacation?

Wait. All of those companies have to get their money from somewhere, right? So we need to know how much of all of the different companies' income comes from the citizens (retail sales) versus selling goods and service to other companies so we can calculate how much goes from citizens to the companies to citizens to the government to the people on unemployment and compare it to the amount of money that comes from companies and goes to other companies to citizens to the government to the people on unemployment.

Wait a minute. Some people work for local, state, and federal government agencies. So their money comes from the government (which gets its money from citizens...oh, and they get money from companies too!) which means we need to do a further matrix of money flow to REALLY figure out who is paying for that unemployment vacation...

...ad nauseum.

:bandit:

If you want to feel warm and fuzzy and believe our "government" is paying for it feel free too. It implies the money comes from the bottomless pit that is our "government". Which it basically has been lately, what with the Federal Reserve "buying" treasuries.
