FSDO Ridiculousness /rant...

Just because they're nice doesn't mean the know what they are doing.

Nine months is far too long to wait for a Flight Manual Supplement.

I hate to dig up my own thread, but I just wanted to provide an update...

Needles to say, my plastic ATP never showed up before my expiration date. A couple of weeks ago I went to the FSDO about 3 days before it actually expired. I asked to speak to my DPEs POI. After sitting around for 45 minutes, I was able to speak to him and told him I would need another temporary and if they have received the correction notice OKC send them. All he said was that they get correction notices on a daily basis, and if they got it they would take care of it. I haven't heard that before:rolleyes: So, he was basically too lazy to check and see if they got it or what the status it. He took my old temporary and said he would make it out for 45 days. 45 days? Don't they usually make them out for 60 days when you need another one? Doesn't matter, when he came back 25 minutes later he made it out for 30 days and told me that if I still wouldn't have it by end of September to come back and we'd do it all over again. Seriously? This is just ridiculous! I'm really fed up with my local FSDO here. I'm making another call to OKC next week and see if they have gotten my paperwork, yet. If not, I'm seriously thinking about filing a complaint or something with the Supervisor of the FSDO or whatever.

Think about this statement and then think about the people you are dealing with. The FAA is worse then the DMV in a lot of ways. Suck's though...

Mine always came back for another 120...had my commercial multi re-issued about half a dozen times.

wow...I'm about 90 days into my temp for my MEI while my co-worker who I worked with on the rating took his checkride a week after mine and has got his plastic one a month ago.

Yeah, that's what it should be! Do they expect me to run to the FSDO every 30 days and get a new temporary if this shenanigans continues? Forget that!

The FSDOs are in over their head. The Richmond FSDO has said that they spend a majority of their time addressing RVSM LOAs and renewals. Airplane sells, new owners must reapply for an RVSM LOA. Toss in an occasional crash, a few check rides and the million and one other things they are responsible for, and you can imagine how quickly things stack up.

My ATP came back about 2 months after the ride and my most recent one came back about 5 weeks later....................incorrect. The replacement (corrected) was at my door a week later.

The Commercial multi was a regular CF. The DPE "lost" the paperwork when the school closed and everything had to be "re-created".

Then there was my initial (private) where they spelled my name wrong. That was awesome.

As T said, the FSDOs are wayyyyyyyyy under-staffed and over-worked right now. It took us 6 weeks to get me in for a .299 checkride (line check). 4 Weeks if you don't count the two that I was at class.

If you think this then have I got a nightmare of a story to tell about the DMV and my nightmare this week.

Thanks for the link to the prior discussion, but I'm still missing what Part of 61.39 allows one to use an expired written except as part of the PIC qualification (captain upgrade). I'm in the same boat; I hold an expired written but have yet to get the ticket, and I'm also furloughed from a Part 121 carrier. Anyway, sorry you're having difficulty with the FAA, and I hope you get your ticket in the mail soon.

germb747, you didn't miss anything. The expired written may be only used if your air carrier is doing your upgrade. If you go to a 3rd party you have to have a fresh written. I went through this myself and had to get a fresh written per the TCE and FSDO. I also experienced great frustrations with lost paperwork, typos, dropped ratings, getting a license I didn't take a ride for etc. and went through 4 temps in about 6 month trying to get it right.

my advise is to keep it civil until you get the cert in hand and then complain.
