Putting something in the comments section...

I know this has been talked about here and there, but I was hoping to get everyone together on one thread (especially those who have been hired) to talk about he comments section on the geopref form.

I put comments on mine for pubnat6, debating whether or not to do it for pubnat7. I'm not going for one of the states that is talked about just above the comments box, would I get dinged / ignored for writing something anyway? Has putting a comment down helped anyone before? What did you write?

Thanks,
Chris

Listed every code for every facility in each of the geo pref states that could fit in 500 characters

I disagree, I left the comment section blank, the more flexible you are the more likely it is you'll be picked up it seems. I left my comment section blank. I thought about putting "I'll go anywhere in the United States," but I didn't. That was the only thing I thought about putting in the comment section.

I did write a comment on Pubnat 6. I had Utah as my #1 choice and had no comments next to it. All FAA facilities are in Salt Lake City, so even putting counties wouldn't help. My second choice was Illinois. I wrote that I prefered to work in Northern Illinois. Ended up getting ZAU, which is in fact in Northern Illinois. Of course I can't be sure my comments had any impact on being selected.

Number 1 choice - California: Comments anywhere in California
Number 2 choice - Nevada: Comments none
That's what I put.

If I remember correct I believe for the bigger states like California, Texas they asked for specific counties or cities. So I just put anywhere in CA.

That is pretty encouraging

I listed MO and TN, putting that I specifically preferred "St. Louis, because my wife is from there, and a happy wife equals a happy life." I got a facility in St. Louis.

I put my desired facility in the comments section... and that is what I got.
(Edit: I selected only one state and specified the facility in the comments section.)

#1: California - comments: ZOA, SFO, OAK
#2: Alaska - comments: Throughout Alaska

I put the exact location I wanted to go to, and the exact facility type (ATCT). In Pubnat2 I got the location I wanted, but a different facility type. I declined and got the exact facility I wanted in Pubnat4.

In my opinion, being specific helped.

I choseOH & TX. For comments I put anywhere for OH and for TX you had to list which facilities so I put all of the facilities I prefered

Ironically, I was being a bit of a smarta** and said "anywhere near a beach" on my comments. I got Jacksonville, FL. I'll live 5 minutes from the beach. lol. I love those people.

Do the facilities see your comments? It would be to a facilities advantage to get someone that wants to be there as opposed to going somewhere just to get your foot in the door and try to transfer to where you really want to be as soon as your certified.

I put which facilities I would prefer and then at the end told them that it was not a deal breaker if I did not get any of the facilities and would go anywhere. I did not get the one I wanted but I got to stay in the same state and go to a good facility

My husband put his two preferences of course and in the comment section, he noted that he would consider other states. He got selected for his first geo pref so I don't think the comment was much help (??) :dunno:
